of Octava MK-12s? Many seem happy with them here, and would reccomend them as a step up from the C1000S... So where can I find a US distributor?

By the way, I googled this and was unable to use the "search function" here at HR.

I think most guys snagged theirs from Guitar center. Every now and then they put them on sale. I can't speak for everyone but I've seen the post about them come up a few times on here.
Watch out though, there is supposed to be QC issues with the Guitar center Oktava stuff. I don't know how much truth is behind that but try out the mics you buy if you can.

http://sound-room.com/customer/home.php?cat=2 will more than likely net you the highest quality. eBay will more than likely net you the lowest price BUT buyer beware! I must admit, I took a chance cause I bought mine so damn dirt cheap ($84 for a pair I think?) on eBay a year ago and they've been fine and luckily the guy I bought them from had pretty well matched them up (or bought them matched?). But, I've also rooted through handfuls of the things at Guitar Center and found big variances in sound and even dead ones.

Find a working mic(s) and you've got a good buy. The extra money may be worth it at the Sound Room but I've never shopped there so cannot testify.

Thanks guys but... nope. The sound room carries MC-012 mics but no MK series mics. The MC mics are 193.00 per mic. Guitar center dosen't carry Octava products, nor does Musician's freind.

Any other ideas?

ok sorry about that no clue on the Mk-12's. As far as I know, the guitar center here carries Oktava. Musicians friend did at one point but I think they have totally stopped.

Oh that's right, for some reason they did that. Hey maybe we are all on the same page after all!! ;)

yes... the MC and the MK are the same... dont know why they were changed though...

thats strange... DJL and i posted the same thing at nearly the same time... i promise i wasnt being redundant!!

Kool... lol... it doesn't matter, the main thing is that they know the mics are the same. :)

The MC012 and MK012 designations are variations in the rendering of the Cyrillic alphabet, whether you spell it microphone or mikrofon. This has to do with who the importer was, and whether the mic was originally intended for export. They are the same mic. GC does indeed sell Oktava mics, but only semi-officially. Not all branches carry them, and they have mostly given up advertising them. I have bought them for $60 apiece at the Natick, Mass GC as recently as a month ago. They will usually charge $99, but I have a fair amount of buying power at GC.
The Sound Room is a whole different animal. They do excellent quality control and meticulous matching, and charge you a fair amount of money for it. Taylor Johnson at The Sound Room is knowledgable and helpful. In either case, I would not buy them on ebay. If you want them cheap, find a GC that has some, and plug them in before you buy them. If you are not a gambling man or an audio expert, consider paying the Sound Room full price for mics you know will be in good condition. I've done both, and gotten good mics both ways.-Richie

I bought 2 from Guitar Center for $100/pair. If you are patient they will go on sale again. My neighbor bought them for the same price at GC over 2 years ago during another sale. The list price when I bought them was $99 each. I waited for them to go on sale because I wasn’t going to listen to him tease me about paying double the amount he paid.
