Yeah, I see your point. But on the other hand, maybe some of us might post a song and just wish that it's about the tune itself, regardless of the equipment. Sometimes it might be about the lyrics, or the musicianship, or just the vibe. I'm not dissing what you're saying, but I'd hate something to be judged based on "what" as opposed to "how" or "why".

If you want to know, just ask. If there's one thing a gear slut isn't afraid to do is give a list of "toys used". :D

Good point about telling what equipment was used. ...hard to do for larger scale productions ...and sometimes it seems that a poster is looking for feedback unrelated to gear, so wants to steer the conversation elsewhere. But it is interesting and sometimes helpful to know what gear was used, and how.

by not posting a gear list, it enables people to form blind opinions about the way a song sounds. i like that.

i definitely believe people (myself included) convince themselves they're hearing certain things when certain names are mentioned.

Yeah that's probably true. Another thing that hits me is that too many listeners here stay anonymous. IMO, it's better if they have to jump in and say something, even if just to ask about the gear and methods.
