Interesting topic cause I love quite dry recordings , check out Steve Hillage's "The Glorious Om Riff" the drums don't come dryer than that !
This is analogue at it's best IMO. Certainly not everyones cup of tea musically but the recoridng is ace. (It's on Spotify in decent quality and Youtube in bad quality (but you can still hear the nice sound quality)

Just remembered this. Neil's guitar amp could be right in front of you - you can almost feel the heat of the valves on your face.

Along the lines of Cortez...it is anything but dry as far as reverb/echo goes but Maggot Brain sounds like I'm sitting there in the control room listening to it all happen.

+1 on Look Sharp by Joe Jackson. I prefer "in your face" mixing for 3 reasons: (1) it feels more intimate (like you're closer to the musicians), (2) it's easier to achieve than fussing with more processing, and (3) most important (to me) - it just sounds plain better.

Rubber Soul was probably the most dry Beatles album at that point in time, but it was superceded in a year or two. Have you listened to Ginger Baker's drums on Cream albums? Fuck those are dry as hell and sound not so great (although he is a fantastic drummer and am willing to look past his drum sound).

Well, it was a toss up with Revolver, but I have always liked the intimate sound of Rubber Soul. I realize there are much drier examples out there, but -- as much as I like Cream -- they're not my favourites. ;-)

i've been enjoying the shit out of Danzig 1,2, and 3 lately. Those are among the driest albums I've ever heard... flat 70's drums and invisible bass and all... Glenns voice peaks out a load too.. very raw... and untreated.
