what's your favorite drum sound?

I absolutely love the drums sound on Tool's Aenema. Especially the toms and the snare. Those toms are exact to what I hear in my head when I work on my drum sounds. Awesome.

I also like the drum sounds Kenneth Schalk from Candiria gets, big lush open sound. That is mostly to do with his style I think, but it's a great sound none the less.

i know its very "80s" but the drums in the song "crusader" by saxon sound awesome.

Kansas had a nice tom break on Lightnings Hand.
On the Point of no return album.
I also liked Anders Johanson's solo on Yngwie Malmsteen
Live in tokyo. He had a triggered/compressed type of toms.

Tar - "Jackson" LP.

Albini always gets my favorite drum sounds. On Jackson, they're a little bigger than he usually makes them.

whoops, try this.

METAL CHURCH, self titled release. Power Metal band that is still putting out new releases even this year.

one of the best sounding recordings, anyone remember them ???

Kirk Arrington is the god of thunder on drums !!!!!!!

oh yeah.........I feel my hair growing back already just talking about it.

Even if you dont like metal music you can appreciate the performance and the sound of this recording. check it out. Lots of verb on the snare, but wait till he does his big tom rolls, on a nice stereo or walkman these will make your hair stand up. Just one of my favorites.

hope this like works. give it a listen. the whole song has some cool drumming.

peace.

"Spiderland" by Slint, i'm always raving about it, and that's because it's SO DAMN GOOD! Do yourselves a favour and listen to it. Properly.

Led Zep all the way.
I don't think anyone can deny Bonzo's Bass DRum ringing though headly grange on "When the Levee Breaks" Besides, anytime that guy hits his snare drum, the room shakes.
Other than that, I am a fan of Mike Cameron of Pearl Jam and formerly of Soundgarden. His tone on Spoonman is the bomb.

Yeah, Zep's drum sound rules! You can clearly see where Albini got some of his ideas.

p.s - i hate to be picky, but it's Matt Cameron.

i've held off on reply to this thread, as there are so many great drum sounds out there, and most importantly so many completely different drum sounds. an important thing to note is the context of the drum sound, what i mean by this is imagine 'the strokes' with say lars' black album sound, won't work right. so does that make the strokes drum sound not a candidate for best recorded drum sound by proxy?

that being said my "favorite" drum sound (the one i find myself most often trying to replicate for my band for my style of music) is that on the very first queens of the stone age album (not rated r, the self titled). I like to call it "Tube" drums, very warm and smooth... the r.e. was not afraid to sacrifice fidelity to get the right sound, and to me thats what recording is all about.

I really liked Dave Ghrol's sound on the new Killing Joke CD. Dry, big, and heavy.
