Hi-Fi VCR tape ! Make your own Live CDs CD-R

This is my best tip and I use it at every gig...
We use an 8 channel powered mixer for amping everything... 4 mics,2 guitars,keyboard. we pencil mark our levels and leave our mix alone.From the mixer recording line-out RCA plugs I run a line into the audio-in jacks of a Samsung Hi-Fi VCR... one I found I can set the tape speed and input source to line-in without needing onscreen tv programing. I put an 8 hour VCR tape in and start recording SLP (8 hour mode) from the line in. No mic on the drums needed because his vocal mic picks it up just fine. EUREKA ! Live recordings with proper mix all the time ! Very good recording with low signal to noise... (alot better than reel to reel days).Now for the fun... I run the VCRs audio out plugs (red and white- yellow is video)into my computers sound card audio-in. I use MUSICMATCH jukebox. watch my VCR counter to find where song begins... type in the name of the song in the MUSICMATCH recorder and rewind to start... when get to songs beginning hit record and the song is encoded to MP3 at 128KBPS digital CD quality. at end of song I hit stop and then type in name of second song... Very quick . Now I use Musicmatchs CD-R burning software which converts file to CDA and I give band members CDs of last gig. Family gets Christmas gifts, etc !. If I recorded directly to hard drive and stored to Wave files I could never fit it all on my computer.. But I have most of the Gigs I've done this summer... We did two weddings and the couples got CDs of the music from the reception... Don't have a band and mixer ? or a Hi-Fi VCR ? Last week I recorded a band with my camcorder and took the audio out (the white plug - yellow is for video) in the same way... needed a different adapter because audio was mono. It worked also ! A little too bassy from the camcorders mic but I burned 6 CDs for a band that never had one which they will get next week. Other Tip... I don't use others setups ! My mixer levels are marked with a pencil for each pot and mics are organized with different colors of electrical tape. Usually I only have to adjust the master Volume for the place were playing. I can change guitar vol. on my guitar and adjust voice by how close to mic... For further info and a FREE Musicmatch download visit

Set up a bed in your recording area and direct it from there.
 
My biggest rule seems obvious, but I know people who break it all the time: never mix with headphones.
 
Hixmix is correct as usual. Instead of paint by numbers though, just get in your car and drive as fast as you can away from any recording gear you see, or you will be doomed.

1 - With rubber bands attatch a buttered piece of toast (butter side-up) to the back of a healthy house cat..
2 - Drop the cat from a safe distance from the floor (say shoulder high)..

Now the laws of physics dictate that both the cat and the toast must land face down, inversly that being impossible, neither can. The result is something I call "Centrifical Bumblepussy". Sample and pitch shift to your key center of the moment.
I haven't figured out how to get the toast off of the cat yet, please forward any suggestions........
 
Try not to be a "Tweak Freak" or over eq,compress,or process
any and all signals! Let the music flow and try to keep the signal as pristine as possible,like Buck62 stated,by using GOOD cables.

Dude, you keep doing weird experiments like that, and you could unbalance the entire planet (karmic skewing),and send us all spinning into the endless oblivion of some black hole!
