GO PACKERS!
I just got mine,a Gretsch lap steel...for free!!!
My brother was doing work for a guy who gave it to him and thought it was a toy or junk.It may be because the thing appears to be made out of plastic.

My brother had no idea what it was and asked me if I wanted it.

I said "sure."

Maybe the gear gods have blessed me after so many sacrifices.

So what's your best deal?

i traded a shitty ibanez bass for a fender 1990 ish squier.

man this thing sounds amazing.

I once picked up a 1969 Fender Hardtail Strat (sunburst) and a 1969 Fender Super Reverb for $1500 Canadian from a guy going through a divorce a few years ago. Sold the both of them for $5000 US.

I also got my 1975 Fender Jazz bass from my Dad. I got my Seagual acoustic with the LR Baggs pickup w/ built in mic and my Washburn AB-10 Acoustic electric bass from my wife before we were married.

I picked up a handmade 1970 Manuel Contreres Rosewood and Spanish Pine classical guitar, the one with red purfling - in a pawn shop for fifty bucks. it was covered with dirt and had finish crazing. It was fantastic.

I traded a peavy decade for a 1969 ovation pacemaker 12...I bought a sunn 200b head for $5 at the swap-meet...with Mullard tubes...sounds great with my GT-2 I got for 20 bucks from pawn shop...4 of my sm57s for $20 each.

Holy crap!!!
That's a lot of cool deals!

I should start a crappiest deal thread,or maybe a "What gear makes you cry when you think about how you got rid of it?" thread.

My '66 Fender Jazz cost me $385 when I bought in in 1980. Back then, nobody thought the '66's would ever be worth anything because they weren't "pre-CBS." :p

had a few, here are some

my 1972 ES335 for 500.00
My 1968 Super Reverb for 300.00
A black face Pro Reverb for 45.00
A Gallen Krueger Bass amp for 35.00
A music man HD130 head for 45.00

there have been more.

I just picked up a pair of Event Precision 8s for $830. Best deal this year.

Yes, this is a true story....

A Fender 1962 Princeton Amp, all ORIGINAL and in MINT condition... $40.00.

Although this was a totally legit purchase I'd rather not go into the story. Obviously the person who sold it to me didn't know what they had.

I got a '66 Jazzmaster for $50.

Also for $50 at various times I got:
A '64 Fender Duo-Sonic
A '66 blackface Fender Bassman
A 1929 Dobro
A 1935 Rick Lap Steel

If you up the ante a bit I paid $80 for a Weissenborn.

Let's see...

I once got a late 50's/early 60's blackface Dual Showman for $50. It didn't work, but the supply circuit for the tube heaters had a busted solder joint at the first tube, so I had it up and running in about 10 minutes. I sold it years later for $400 and I've been kicking myself ever since.

I also got a Shure 548S at a pawn shop for $20. The little ID strip was gone, so the guy had no clue what it was. I still have it and I use it daily.

TEAC 3440 and Otari MX5050 MkIII 8 track- both for $150 CDN
'64 Strat- $300 CDN
'65 Tele- $225 CDN
plus tons of free stuff.
