What's your best deal ever?

I once came across a BC Rich Warlock on the second hand rack in a small shop. It was one of the early 80's models before Rich started putting out all the NJ crap. It was $500 and not a mark on it. I bought it without ever plugging it in. Best guitar I have ever played. I later found out it had come from the BC Rich Custom shop. The guy that ordered it payed $2200 for it (which was alot, you could get a hand made Gibson Les Paul Custom for under $1000 at the time.), just 6 months before, but had a gambling problem and had to come up with a lot of cash fast, so he sold it to the shop cheap. It was built to custom specs, and finish. It took 12 months for them to complete it, and it was a one of a kind. It was not a "neck thru", or set neck, but rather made from one solid hunk of wood. Body and neck were really one piece of mahonany. I sold it for $500 10 years ago. I can not find another like it. I called the Custom shop and they said $4000 for them to duplicate it.

1963 Gretsch Chet Atkins Country Gentleman, all original, w original hard case. $425US.

Klipsch Heresy speakers and Harmon Kardon Citation 11 and 12 set up from an elderly student that passed away. His wife gave it to me...she stated that he had instructed her to leave them with me...never even knew him that well.

I "gave back" by donating a lovingly used upright piano to a young family with a little boy. He's a student of mine...didin't have a piano of his own but practiced on a two octave casio toy. Best investment I ever made.

It comes around and goes around if you participate in the big circle. :)

I have'nt bought a whole lot, but I recently picked up a *new* SM57 w/case and a *new* MXL2001 w/shockmount for $100.00. I think it was a good deal.

In 1976, I bought my first guitar. A 1958 Fender Strat that I got for Cdn$500 (about US$350 at the time). I couldn't play a note, though I decided if I was to buy such a guitar, I'd damn-well learn -- and I did. I sold it on ebay in 2002 for a very healthy profit that I've never made off anything else, and most likely never will again. It's outrageous what people are willing to pay for these vintage Strats (and others), but who am I to argue. Apart from my 1979 Ibanez acoustic beater and recording studio gear, with the proceeds I bought the gear listed in my sig below plus a Carvin amp, paid for my wife's laser-eye surgery, and paid other bills. My '58 was a beautiful guitar and although I swore I'd never sell it, there's an interesting and long story behind why I did, but I won't bore you with the details. It wasn't because I needed the money. I really don't miss it -- the 2002 '57 Strat Reissue I replaced it with plays great. And I love my Taylor.

I picked up a black '80s "vintage" Charvel/Jackson Randy Rhoads flying V for $100 bucks at a pawn shop. Another time I picked up a black and white Fender Precision Bass for $120, and I picked up a Dimebag Crybaby from hell that was signed by him in yellow paint pen (it at least matches the autographs I can find for him online) for $60 last year.
