What does THIS button do?
See the image I attached? That's the hoop on my bass drum on the front. The front is a remo powerstroke III ebony. I got it from guitar center. For some reason, I can't get the metal part of the head to sit on the hoop right, it's almost like the head is out of round. The shell is okay and I know this because the head that came with it seated right, and the evans emad on the batter side sits on there right. Did I do something wrong when I put it on? It's not the whole thing that has the gap like that either, it's just like half of it.

Can you post a larger picture? I kind of see what you're talking about, but it's hard to tell.

Go back to guitar center & see if it fits on a drum there? Try a different head?

sorry... It's like not flush with the hoop like this:
I also have another attachment of the other side, which fits right. Maybe I should use an evans head on the resonant side too, but, I'm just pissed that it won't fit right on my bass drum. I mean, I buy something brand new and it should work right.

What pattern did you use when tightening the lugs? Assuming your drum & hoop are fine, this is either a defective head, or the pattern that you used to tighten it up has caused the head to seat incorrectly. If the latter is the case, the "tuning bible" has some patterns in there that are helpful. Also, tightening in an order that gives results such as this can bend your hoops and cause other damage.

okay, this is what I do: I set the head on the drum while its facing up. I place the hoop on it, and then the lugs and retainers around the hoop. I tighten the lugs with my hand almost as tight as I can, and then I get the drum key out. I do tighten it (i go 1, and then across, and then next to it, and then across (which is next to the 1st) and then across, next, across, etc) and then I check the pitch of all the lugs to make sure its even. It is, but, it just disturbs me as to why the thing does not sit on there right.

Dude. Those are Pacifics, aren't they? It's not your head. It's your hoop. The pacific hoops are prone bending bad because they're flimsy pieces of DW manufactured crap. I had the exact same problem with my Pacific MX's with BOTH batter and reso hoops. Out of curiosity, are you tuned with your head tight or loose? Also, what's the weather been like where you're at? I think mine did that when the head was relatively tighter than I play with the bass drum now but no tighter than anything within reason. I had a warping prob with my hoop as well and had to pull the hoop off and let it sit on the floor without tension for about a day and then put it on opposite as it came off and all should be well.

Also, you may want to go around and tighten up the screws on your badges....those's are prone to coming unscrewed especially on the bass drum and snare. Watch your a** carefully with the small diameter cheapie pot-metal tension screws putting them back on as they're prone to easy cross-threading and will snap off clean in the lugs.

I thought DW was so much better than this. Besides the bad hardware choices, the kits sound awesome but hidsight is 20/20 now with my Pacifics.

I've got it tuned loose. I haven't tried taking the thing off and laying it flat on the floor to see if either the head or hoop is warped at all, but, I do know I have gotten heads at guitar center before and they were definately bent. I would have taken it back and gotten pissed but the kit I had it on was some vista lites and the bass drum shell was cracked and wasn't round anyways... I'll have to try that though, and if it's the head, i'm going to start buying evans heads from now on.
