It must be sad being you

it sounds a lot more like taking back sunday than anything. and a lot of yellowcard. the guitars are a little too loud. the bass is too quiet for my taste (and twangily low lacking) hehe. it almost sounds like the snare and hi hat are heavily gated. but... this is just an mp3. good tunes!!! this is all i can pull from an mp3... but good stuff!!!

p.s.~how does this rep stuff work anyway??? i've not bothered to think about it because i'm sure it's just a game for the biggest part. thanks fellas!!!

Dude. You just insulted him worse than Ballroot did. Only you did it in a sneakier, more covert fashion.

.

Well, at least I didn't call him a dick and tell him to give up music and work at McDonalds  . Seriously, I meant no insult and hope he doesn't take it that way.

I don't see anything wrong with making music that teenagers like. When I was a teen I liked a lot of old rock bands - Aerosmith, Blue Oyster cult, AC/DC. For some reason, a lot of the generation that came before us didn't care for these bands, but I sure liked them. I started playing guitar in garage bands at 15 - now if someone had said to me "hey, your band sounds a lot like AC/DC, I would've been flattered. All I'm saying now, is that the style of music these guys are doing sound a lot like some of these bands I hear my daughter and other teens listening to today. This is not "bad" music - I just personally don't like the way this style always sounds so "squished", like it's all just drive, but lacks the dynamics and the emotion of old school rock or other types of music. Regardless, if it's what these guys are going for than more power to them - they do it very well and to me they sound like bands that are selling millions of albums today (and that's a compliment). Now, if they start asking questions like "what's wrong with my mix?", I'm going to tell them the same kind of thing I would tell Blink-182 or many of these other bands I'm hearing today - I think the music would sound better if they put the dynamics back into it and arranged and mixed the songs so that you could better appreciate each of the individual instruments. That's only my opinion however, and I realize that all opinions aren't the same.

These guys don't care if you jab them a little. They're too busy having casual sex with probably a ton of chicks to care what some grumpy fart on an internet board thinks of their music genre.

for the short time I listened to the clip.
drums sound like they were recorded in another room, need punch and definition. guitars too far spread left and right.
bass too low.vocals burried
just my thoughts from a quick listen. What was the recording/mixing chain?

I had my band's stuff recorded and there is something in the mix that has a problem. I can't figure out just whats wrong, the drums, or the guitars, or w/e. Is there any possible way to clean this up, what levels are off etc.

Not a bad song ! The guitars get mushy right away and then drop out for no apparent reason from time to time, the vocals were often drowned by the guitars. Anyway, good concept, good song, just needs polish......keep mixing until you like it! :D

Good song, good playing. The mix.....well it's certainly wide. Are you using something to push the width? It seems a little over the top in that regard, which I found distracting and not appropriate for the genre. This kind of tune I want to come across to me as a band playing together in a realistic soundstage. As mentioned, the drums are kind of washy and lacking the punch they should be bringing to the mix. The guitars and drums don't sound like they were played in the same state, let alone the same room. There's a cohesion that's very missing.

Keep at it, your on the way.

It's the bass. The bass is the glue that's totally missing. This tune would sound so much more together with a tight rythmn. The staccato guitar part is a bit loud. The vocals could use some more "in your face". It is very hard to tell with a squashed MP3 but I'm trying to imagine hearing it full rez. Like others have said the spread seems to be too wide, a least on too many parts, maybe paint a little more dimension with varying pans. But again a good solid bass track would pull everything into focus. I'm not quite sure about the drums because there seems to be no bass accompanying with them. Overall, all the chops seem to be totally there and the like any other modern tune you hear on the radio today, good work. A tight rythmn (with bass) would make all the difference.

hey ballroot!

hey ballroot, Sir,
let me take a guess at this buddy... you are a metal head correct... because only a "true" metal head has that completely ignorant attitude about other styles of music... I know because I was one of those kids. You know those kids who try so hard to go against anything different and "sell-out" that they end up conforming with anti-conformity. Thats cool that you don't like my music, thats fine. I'm not making it for you. I'm making it for the people that like and listen to my band, like the KIDS, yes the kids, who pay a lot of money to radio friendly like bands similar to mine. And before you go ridiculing my shit because its not metal enough or I'm a pussy, I would like you to know that I grow up on all types of music, because the only way to be a "true" musician, is to be cultured. My favorite band is Metallica. Yet I play this, why, because I like it. And I bet I would outplay you in metal any of the week... but thanks for your one-sided dull opinion. Do yourself a favor and pick up a Starting Line CD, a Kelly Clarkson CD, an Eminem CD, and a Beethoven CD and don't be afraid of what you like ;-) Just a tip.
