What's Up With Winodws Xp...

I am having the hardest time opening CDS that I made on another computer using ADAPTEC DIRECT CD...It would appear that windows xp won't open these CD'S for some reson. I have tried CD ROLLER AND ISOBUSTER AND STILL HAVING PROPBLEMS....Anyone with any real solutions...hate to use all of this music I have created over the years.......please help...Thanks.
 
did you close out the disk(s) ?...if not...then you must install adaptec again and close the disk(s).

windows won't let you install adaptec...says it will slow system down so it is blockin drivers
 
I doubt that XP has anything to do with it. Some older CD drives won't read certain disks.
 
this is a brand new cd rom...came with computer...i am sure it has something to do with xp because MANY say they have the same problem...even roxio admits that easy cd creator 5 as well as the old adap won't work in XP....my thing is I am trying to find a way around it....many say use these recovery systems but i am having no luck with them..:-)
 
There's your problem. Roxio makes some of the most useless software on the market. It doesn't work correctly with XP because the software is junk not because XP has a problem.
 
TRy a different computer. If the disk opens, then you may have been infected.
 
Adaptec software is basically pure garbage. Stick with something less 'fluffy' and more useful, like Nero.
 
This problem is definately an Adaptec problem. Direct CD often uses proprietary formatting, especially in older versions. What this means, is that only computers with the proper decoding codecs can read those discs.
 
You may need to install "ASPI" software. This is a drive command protocol used by many earlier CD programs and was included with Windows, but was left out of XP. Adaptec have it for download here...

Despite the convience, I would advise against Direct CD or any other kind of packet writing software - there is too much chance you will not be able to access it in future or on a different machine. Stick to standard ISO CD-r data formats. Even if it means the CD is nowhere near full - close it. An open CD cannot be read on another machine. CD-r blanks are cheap enough after all if you buy them in Cakeboxes. I wouldn't bother with CD-r/w blanks at all.

Even the free version NERO EXPRESS can do a lot
 
The Nero engine, in any form, is better than anything adaptec or roxio can come up with.
 
Its that adaptec crap. I have a whole bunch of backup CD's I did years ago with the adaptec thing, and the only pc the disk will work on are the pc I did it on.

Direct CD was made so that you could use your CD like any other drive and just drag things into it. This was before Windows XP. XP has that functionality built into it, rendering adaptec direct CD obsolete.
 
Nero is really the way to go - great software, never had a problem with any of it's burns - but the ASPI driver should help with the software you've got.

i wish i had known a week ago

well i already bought the roxio suite 8 because it said it works in windows xp and for TWO days i have been having problems....won't write cds without some error message...i'm going thru cds like freakin water! by the way what is the ASPI driver and where do i get it....i would get nero...but hell i just bought this roxio "crap" gotta be something i can do...if not then....nero it is....

I had a problem when I had roxio ( I guess came with xp) and nero installed at the same time. My shit would lock up when I put a cd in. I just got rid of roxio and that seemed to help.
 
nero is the best program for burning I'll say... I used this dinky SonicNow that came with my HP lightscribe cd, and it sucks burns in like 5 minutes, but now I went back to nero, and i burn in 3 minutes or less. Not only that, but I've never had problems with dummy cd's

actually after i had post i went up and saw your post and downloaded the drives....:-) Didn't help at all but thanks anyway. Still won't burn just error messages....

Again thank you for you posts I did go back and read it when you first posted it, I got a lot out of it and I appreciate your time really.. I apologize I did not recognize it. Charge it to my head being overtaken by frustration with situation which is still the same....
