Maybe "underexposed" is a better way to describe Carvin. A lot of people don't know about them.

underrated acoustic

Oh, and most underrated acoustic is the Carvin cobalt series, especially the Rosewood sided A/E dreadnoughts. Same fishman electronics as on Taylors, amazing unplugged tone, and unbelievebly low action.

Hammer imports!!!! But not the Slammer series - those are a little tooo cheap.

I've got an Echotone semi and had a Standard (looks like a Gibson Explorer) for awhile. I would put those against most US name brands anyday.

but that's just my opinion

Just a friendly FYI, Taylor Guitars havent used Fishman electronics for a couple years now, since the introduction of the "ES" system, designed in part by Rupert Neve.

A big mistake on their part, if you ask me. They don't sound any better, and the ES system is quite cranky of matenance.

I'll stick my neck out and say a decent, used MIM strat that can be had for in the two hundreds.

naw, just the first few they let out of the factory too early. And their customer service is top notch in getting problems fixed. My 514ce with es is a great sounding guitar. It is the best plugged in stage sound I have ever come across. I have never been a fan of the spiky nasly piezo conventional acoustic pickups. I compared over 100 acoustics with a budget of $2600, some with fishman and new ES and picked this one out of all of them.

Believe me, I know. They pay me many thousands of dollars every year to fix there guitars. They are a GREAT company for customer service. I love dealing with them most of the time, though they are major pushovers much of the time. I have seen them pay for damage which was cause by customer neglect or downright mistreatment; after I told them in so many words that the customer abused the guitar. Big mistake, and completely unnecessary. If you don't humidify your guitar in the winter in Minnesota, it is YOUR fault when it cracks, end of story. You have been warned by the factory in their owner’s manual, and there are many times many websites out there which tell you to deal with this.

And it is not just some of the early ones. We have had some from the last six months come in already, and the replacement systems they send us have a failure rate which is much higher than I would consider acceptable for the guitars I sell. We have seen far too many ES guitars multiple times.

Although, I have to say, that about a third of the time the problem is that someone did not collect the ball end part of the string when they broke a string, and it got stuck to one of the soundboard pickup elements. But then, that is a design flaw in its own way.

And I still think the Fishman sounds better.

I have a Levinson Blade R1 strat which I'll never get rid of. Beautifully made, sounds excellent, stays in tune, quiet - had it for 12 years now and is still, despite serious road use in very good nick. I've played various real strats over the years and I wouldn't swap it for any of them.

Only had mine (Durango Hybrid) for two years. But I'll second that...
I was really aiming for the RH4, but this one got in the way. No regrets.

Ibanez Universe (7-string)

I have one and it's it great, but I think 7 string guitars are being stereotyped. Most people are under the impression that if you play a 7 string, you are only using the low b-string. Or you are a Steve Vai wanna be and can't play with any feeling. (Steve Vai does play with a lot of emotion by the way)

Every now and then, but that is the exception, not the rule.

Washburn Idol WI65, discontinued now - I got a new one off E-Bay last week for 350 bucks. It plays like a dream, SD '59 in the neck, Custom Custom in the bridge, buzz feiten system, very nice matt black finish - quality.

The dodgy skull decal on the headstock might not be to everyones taste, but for that quality and at that price I can live with it :)

I figure a slight modification of the orignal thread might be fun.

So which GUITAR do you think is underrated?

I for my part like my 300 bucks SCHECTER C-1 FR a lot... mahog. body, maple neck body binding - figured maple top - a very nicely playing and well put together axe.

who's next?

I think ESP's line are a great group of guitars that don't get much love.

Sneaking in an acoustic and a couple of nostalgics

Have to agree with the schecter, anyone with one for sale let me know, brings back memories of my youth

Also now I think of it Tokai made some pretty sexy strat

And I have a Fender Flame (twin humbuckers on a fender mmmm) Sounds almost as good as my 70's V - checkout robben ford tone for this one

My fav curve ball guitar is Levin, fabulous tone

All under rated as far as I am concerned

saga guitar kit

i have a strat kit from saga music! built it myself out of the box
love the sound the feel is as good as i made it.
i checked all kinds of strats and teles in guitar center and did not think that they sounded any better than my $130 kit.

i also have a Kramer strat knock off that i love the sound of. good sustain on the sucker!

great under rated acoustic has to be a Taylor big baby
about $400 bucks now. with a solid top, gig bag and made in the usa too!
great tone and easy to play don't let the smaller size fool you.

also Gretsch acoustics sound good i have a 6012 Rancher that i love the sound on, the neck is awesome maple body and spruce top made in Japan better than China :D

also any old guild i have ever played sounded good
the new ones i think suck
i like my D25 a lot

How could I forget

How could I have missed Guild

and of course hoffner
