whats the difference between all the versions of the sennheiser md421

i'm looking out for a Sennheiser md421

i know there are several 'formats' or types,
could anyone tell me the differences between all of them ,

i heard some people say that the older and grey mics sound better than the new black ones ;.. but i think that the grey ones might be too old , their diaphragm might be dried out or something;..

can you say that they all sound the same and all are made for the same purpose ? or not ...

Do a search on this mic forum... this subject has already been covered pretty good... I think some of the threads even have some pictures and etc. I wouldn't say all MD421's sound the same... but I've never heard a bad one either.
