What's the deal with waves iLok now?

Fireal402

Eyeballs! OH MY GOD EYES
V4 doesn't need the iLok, but 5.x does, minus a few plugs or seomthing? I know a few of you use waves, and I'm moving up to a v5 bundle cos the older stuff just doesnt sound as good. I got the iLok anyways, but I'm a little confused by th way it works. Must be those upgrated tubes in my motherboard.

EDIT: I haven't gotten the iLok yet, but I got the conformation stuff to DL the plugs from the waves site. for some reason they aresn't recognized by logic, but maybe that's cos of no iLok yet?

An Ilok is a usb plug that holds your authorization codes. Without it you're plug won't show up. Purchase an Ilok, set up an account at ilok, have waves send them your authorization, and transfer the authorization to your ilok. That's one way to do it.

you know, I've never had any problems with ILok in the past until I tried a demo of the Waves stuff...and, to be honest, it's made me decide to stay away from Waves.

I had to go through several authentication methods, put codes in, have an internet connection so it could verify my ILok key with their web site....I was so confused as to what I was doing that I just started pressing buttons and it finally worked.

ILok is very annoying.

Well, here's a little more to the problem. I installed the waves stuff, my iLok comes in the mail tomorrow, and I installed software from the link from Waves, but I don't get any kind of error code or anything telling me it's installed correctly.

Does it just show up when you plug in the iLok? Did I install in the wrong order? Am I on too many substances? I need help here people!

No you're going to have to wait til the ilok comes in. You can't use them "until" you transfer the authorization code from your ilok account to your ilok. And your ilok also "has" to be plugged into a usb port everything time you open your daw to use them. Benny said something about another authentication method with waves you're gonna have to do as well. It'll all very agitating and you probably won't be using them for 3 days or so. Atleast that was my first experience with an ilok. My pro tools ilok didn't work right out of the box. It was broken and took myself and digidesign about a week to figure out. Plus another week waiting for the new ilok. Had everything for 2 weeks before I could use it.

All this for some awesome EQ's and comps :(

So far, every time I check the fedex shipping thing, they add a day to the arrival. First it was the 17 then 18 then 19 and now 20. I hope it comes today, I wanna play with a compressor!

OH MY FUCKING GOD. What in the fuck does all this crap mean? I'm trying to install it, and it makes NO sense whatsoever. Specially on a mac.

I plugged installed everything I thought I should, but it doesn't show up? I got the musicians bundle II for the record, only needed RComp and EQ, but why is this so hard? I'm pulling out my hair trying to understand ANY of this, and I know a shit ton about PCs.

EDIT: I now see why piracy is rampant. I've only ever used waves at studios, and I feel sorry for all the techs that had to install this crap

oh it's just Waves that I've had problems like this with....at least with their demos. Does the software box actually come with a small key that you insert into your ILok key? That's the typically the way all my other iLok stuff works.

When I tried the waves stuff you had to authorize it over the internet through their site (creating a login profile for your account, etc. etc.)

Sorry that you're havin' problems....it sucks that pirating has gotten so bad that companies are resorting to this.

What do you mean it's not showing up? It's not showing up where? What daw are you using? It's probably not gonna show up in your daw until you get your ilok and transfer everything. Have you gotten the ilok yet?

Here is the most current situation.

I registered the bundle with waves, registered it to the iLok key I got, and now in my account thing it says "pending iLok auth" or something similar.

Then, I followed the instructions and installed the wave authorization utility, and it comes up with a challenge/response screen. All of the directions say at this point, a browser window is supposed to open, you enter in the challenge, get the response, and go on your merry way.

Well, I spent three hours looking all over the waves site for a link or anything helping me, but nothing at all.

How did everyone else go about this? I know I installed the plugs first, and then the iLok stuff, but since I couldn't run it without autho I thought it wouldn't matter. I am on a mac, maybe it blocks the necessary screen because it thinks it's a popup. I don't know, but I'm frustrated as hell

I don't have Waves but it looks like Ilok is waiting on something from them to proceed with the authorization. try contacting waves or ilok or search iloks website.

Oh man, it's gotten even worse now.

I've spent about six hours trying to deal with this crap. I got the iLok authorized to some response, but it doesn't show up as a plugin. So I go into the waves folder, try to run RComp, and it pops up with the challenge/response screen.
So I enter in the response that waves gave me, and it says it's invalid.

You know, I think I'm just gonna get this resolved, drink a 40, then buy the TC powercore Firewire, so I can have good plugs that don't need this shit.

If you do get it to work DON'T LOSE THAT ILOK!!

The fuckers won't replace the authorizations on it. NONE of the plugin companies do. You have to rebuy the plugs. Isn't that nice?

I hate the damn thing. And every time I question the ilok makers about it that give me "What? All the rest of our users love it."

Screw them. I mix analog now.

Good luck with it,
Chris

Because of all this crap, I'm getting a TC Powercore Firewire, because there's (hopefully) no dongle, and it wont kill my cpu like waves does.

I never ever thought I'd lose this much faith in a company. Sure, piracy affects them, but NOT on a professional scale. The people that pirate most are the ones who want to learn how to do it. Once they learn, like me, they spend their hard fuckin earned money if they even consider it as a career, and if not, it sits on their hard drive until a new paris hilton porn comes out.

FUCK YOU WAVES AND YOUR AWESOME PLUGINS AND BASS-ACKWARDS COPY PROTECTION!

Oh, Chris, please tell me this isn't bad. I have a feeling the response key is based around the original challenge key, but since I accidentally closed the window, it is lost forever. And every time I run the reg proggie or even use the plugs it gives me a different challenge key. But my iLok is registered to that original response key.

DID I JUST FUCKING WASTE MY MONEY ON A PEICE OF SHIT PLASTIC USB KEY?!?!?!?

Can't say. :(

I also haven't sucessfully re-registered my waves stuff to V.5 with the iLok. It was only a few plugs that came with a Digi 002 way back when, so it isn't a huge loss. I do wish the dorks would still offer disk authorizations, though.

If I were you I'd contact waves support and see what's up with the iLok stuff. Unless you are returning the software.

If you bought it, Waves should bend over backward so that you can use it! It might be a pain in the arse, but once its up and running you shouldn't have any more trouble. They are good plugs.

As for the Powercore- the device itself IS the dongle. :) Enjoy!

With the PoCo FireWire system the DSP box is the dongle... but it's large enough that you likely won't lose it.

Seriously, I have no idea why anybody would mess with Waves and their ilk (Steinberg and IK are also on this kick). The whole dongle/iLok/Pace game is a serious disrespecting of their customer's time, money, and patience level.

Happily, there are alternatives. Check out Sonalksis, Voxengo and Kjaerhus plug-ins. The quality is super and they are customer-friendly. Vote with your wallet and send a message to the $%*^*'s!
