I have a deluxe strat and I can tell you, Yes, it is worth it. It basically takes your 5 position toggle and makes it 7 combinations.

i have the S1 on my american deluxe strat, and i can tell you that it is very well worth it.

the extra pickup combos aren't all good. some of them, i dont really like. i think i probably only use regularly 2 or 3 of them, but for the extra versatility its totally worth it.

i would also like to add that the American Deluxe is a bad-ass guitar.

The S1 adds three out of phase sounds and two more 'almost regular' sounds. They all offer more gain than the sounds without the S1 enabled.

They also add a good amount of low-mid to the sound.

IME they work best with a bit of fuzz (a Rat is ideal), or the 'bright' channel of an amp, otherwise they seem a little too muddy IMO.

S1 is good to have as you have another five sounds to play with - but the most useful sounds for me (the more 'in-phase' sounds) are in the hardest to select positions (the same place the out of phase sounds are without S1 enabled).

It's cool to have another five tones to play with - but not the best thing about the guitar :)

Here's my baby BTW:
