I knew that heading would get you attention. What i really am asking is what exactly is it that makes studio monitors so mucd different from say, my house speakers. Is it the speaker its self. How does it give you such a pure sound. Thanks in advance

One of the things, and probably the main difference, is that monitors should give as flat a response as possible -- no exaggerated highs or lows.

Exactly. Home stereo speakers have exagerated hi and low frequency bumps built into them. Monitors are built to be brutally accurate.

In a nutshell this is how I always see it:

Great hi-fi speakers are built to hide any unpleasant-ness in a recording.

Great monitors are built to throw any unpleasant-ness in a recording right in your face where you can hear it.

Just another way of saying monitors are flatter (nothing is ever totally flat) than hi-fi speakers.

if you have the chance to do an a/b comparison....play a cd you like in a pair of studio monitors and your home stereo system....i got to do that and the studio monitors hit me with a cleaner and more powerful feeling sound. i liked watching a dvd and hearing it through the monitors also....try doing that too if you get a chance
