Well, I've read that the best performance can be gotten out of VIA Apollo KT266A chipset, but I don't think its been out for more than 5 months or so, so I'm not sure about stability.

266a

Greetings,

I have been reading all about 266a chipsets these last few months and they are the best of the best for amd xps. As for stabilty, they are good for normal computing, but things can always get weird with soundcards and stuff regardless of chipset. However I can't imagine 99.9% of people having a problem.

Motu has a current pci card problem with kt266a. It may be remedied soon.

Tubedude brings up an excellent point, you should make sure that the sound card or interface you intend to use functions and is supported on the AMD platform. For example, I believe M-Audio tests all their products on the Intel and AMD chipsets. You can usually find out by writing the manufacturer or looking on their website.

So, what interface are you using?

PS: I just built an Athlon XP 1400 for my wife and the things is FAST! She plans on using it for Vegas Video so I'll have to let you guys know how it turns out.

I'm not sure on the interface yet.I think i'll build my system around an xp 1500 & asus a7v266/e mobo but im still doing some searching.I would have gone with the p4 for stability, but i dont think intel knows where they are going themselves.
