Let’s use Harvey’s chart… that seemed to work rather well:

V = Vocals
D= Drums
E= Electric Guitars
A= Acoustic Guitar
P= Piano
H= Horns
S= Strings
M= Misc.
B= Bass
R= Rough Tracks

(7) SM57 -- DEM
(3) SM58 -- R
(2) Beta 58 -- RM
(2) 421 -- DEBV
(2) AT 4033 -- VDEBHM
(1) D112 -- DM
(1) Audix D4 -- DBM
(1) Beta 52 -- DB
(1) AKG C419 -- DHM
(1) Blueberry -- VM
(1) TLM103 -- VHM
(*) Various mics replaced in installs (old church PA, oil rigs, etc)

I need another 421 for toms, an RE20 to replcace the one that was stolen, and a matched set of SD condensors (most likely either earthworks or 81's)

COOL TOYS-R-US... an SM7, a PZM, a C1 (just to get on the bandwagon ;-) and anything that arrives in a box with SPA on the first line of the return address :-)

I usually don't pay attention to gear list posts but hell, ya got me.

(1) AKG C12VR (indefinite loan)
(1) AKG D112
(3) AKG C1000s
(1) AKG C3000
(5) AKG C418
(1) AKG SolidTube (modified)
(2) AKG unknown model dynamics (for talkbacks)
(1) AKG C414buls
(1) MXL V67 (Mars black)
(4) Shure SM57
(3) Senn MD421 (various vintage)
(1) RCA BK11A
(2) EV unknown model dynamics 1 is great for guitar, 1 is great for nothing.
(1) Radio Shack P.O.S. condenser. Great for trashy vox.

I know I'm forgetting something. The list of mics I've gotten rid of is probably 4 times as long.

Wish list;
I was saving for a Brauner VM-1, or a Soundelux U95, but I decided to put that money down on a Harley FLH instead.

Audio Technica AT 4047
Audio Technica ST 90 (The mic came free with the stand...or was it the stand that came free with the mic... doesn't matter, they're both worth about the same.

I'll Second that, It least I got my Mic stand with an SM57

Lemme See here

(6) Audio Technicha ST-90 (I got em for $20 USD, and they work great for vocal reinforcement at practice)
(1) Shure SM57 (Desperately wanting to get a couple more to replace the ST-90-s I still use whem micing the drums
(1) 5-pc AKG Emotion Drum Mic Pack, includes
(1) D-550
(2) D-440
(2) D-660

The teo 440's are mounted with the included clips on the top Rims of the High and Mid Toms, The D-550 is for the kick, the 660's are on the ride, and the Left Crash, Still use st-90's for the hat, (Which he doesn't much use) and the Right Crash, (Yes he has two crashes, and a splash, and the Floor Tom also gets a ST90 The 440s run into the mic preamps on my Digi001, (Because If I astually run them through a preamp they clip like hell, Hot little bastards that they are,)(Digi001 has a 26db pad on those two preamps, to allow you to use those inputs for line level signals, :D ) Can't forget the SM57 on the share. Damn thing is Zip Tied to the stand for the Hi Hat (With foam rubber in between) and that thing picks up every freakin piece in the kit, not perfectly mind you but still, a versitile piece of equipment.

Bass Playrt also owns an SM58, the Drummer likes the SM57, and the guitarist prefers the 58.

I really want to replace the remaining ST90's on the drum kit with perhaps SM57's

I also use the 440's for ambience, when we are practicing and/or composing

It's a big, bad disease...

A pair of headphones plugged into a radio shack preamp records nicely, thats my 1st choice.
Thats my only choice.
Sounds great.
When you're drunk on your 4th day of being up on crank, theres no comparison. Sounds even better on the 5th day.
Cheap, too.
Eventually I want to get a pair of headphones with larger speakers in them for overheads and vocals, and use the smaller ones for guitars and snare. (I consider these "matched pairs" by the way) I should be able to get them in a few months when I come up with $20. I figure I can get a pair used for about $15, so I might have them alot sooner than I think, maybe by the end of September (if I save about $3 a week, that is... not easy saving THAT kind of money working for UPS). When I get them, I'll cut some new vocals with them and we'll see if anyone can tell the difference bettween some really high quality $15 headphones and a $2000 Neumann. I'll bet it stumps you all.
And that also makes me the offical winner of the most humble mic closet that doubles as monitor headphones and as ear protection at local rock shows.
Peace,
Paul

ok.. another pretty basic list...

4x SM57
2x MC012 (DAMN nice microphone)
1x Rode NT1 (Sux for vox, but nice to experiment with)
1x Rode NT3 (don't use much when there's 2 oktavas around)
1x ATM?? Electret Condenser. Haven't tried it out much yet.

Wish list contains a kick-drum mic and a too good to be true cheapo Large Diafragm... and maybe another 2 SM57s

Ok, I've put it off long enough...

This fall, I'm giving my mic collection a facelift. I'm trying to decide on a BLUE mic or two(if ya haven't read my earlier post), a Soundelux mic(lookin' at their tube model), a Royer ribbon mic, and a pair of overheads like the Neumann KM184's or Shure SM81's. I'll probably pick-up a pair of Octava's due to their rave reviews and low price. Sorry, I'm just not comfortable with the Chinese mics...yet.

Please feel free to give me any insight on what I'm looking at.

Okay, I've dragged this out long enough...

2 SM57's
3 EV 408b's
1 CAD E100
1 AKG Tri-Power(live voc. mic)

You know, with the exception of the AKG, all my mics are American. Maybe I should take a closer look at the CAD tube mics and the Shure KSM 44?

T. Alan

oh dear

*sigh*

a Shure SM57.

I feel really intimidated right now.

Are mics ok to get used on Ebay?

Here's mine, pretty basic.

2-SM57
2-AKG 535
1-Apex 125
1-Apex 320
1-EV Ndym- can't remember the model, kind of a toned down 57
