What's creating these sounds? Keyboards, modules, or something else?

Hey Tex,

Thanks again man, I've got a couple hundred bills layin around so might have to check out the local pawn brokers. They usually just have one 1/4" jack right; you chain em then send it into mixer? How do you usually link the chain (order) or does it matter at all?

Oh and yeah you're definitely right about Radiohead using such stuff to make ambient noises. During their shows Ed, rythym guitar, actually sits right down on a couple of tracks and fiddles with his 20 or so peddles/boxes. Treefingers, which is so Eno/Aphex Twin like, is a simple guitar lick run through supposively like 50 little boxes and it is heavenly as they come, duh, guess I should have thought of this sooner.

hmm.. well you're prolly not gonna be able to make that law mower sound though.. but if you really want stricktly ambient, it's quite right that u should go catch some vibes with your mic..
personally i like making melodic ambient the few times i've made some..

Deciding what order to put them in is half the fun and makes a big difference. You can also use a volume pedal at different points in the chain for different effects.

You can use an EQ pedal before a delay and set the EQ to make a big change in tone. Hit the EQ on and off as you play and you will get cool echoes of the different tones washing over each other.

Use a volume pedal after distortion but before Reverb or delay and you have a thick distortion that can swell in to the delay.

You can also split the signal wherever you want so you can have a regular distortion sound and have a volume pedal feeding a flanger or something that you can bring in to the sound gradually whenever you want.

Pedals are noisy, unprogrammable, and a chore to setup for live shows. But if you want real time control over every effect parameter there is no better way to do it.

Hey Tex and Chriss (or anybody else who cares),

I just posted some of my stuff for the first time in the MP3 forum, just wonderin if y'all would check it out and tell me what you thought. Oh and Chriss, went down to GC today and checked out the Nova II, lovvvvve it man, you were right on. You know if the rack version is lacking much comared to the board? It's ony 550 which is totally do-able in the near future. Thanks a lot!

laj: you mean the Nova desktop version? that's basically the same, except, 40 band vocoder and the abillity to do "chrunchy" distortion and some of the effects are a bit different too..
It's only got 16 voices though.. (but 9 oscillators.. so who gives a fuck?)

If you're talking about the Supernova I Rack, then the difference is: no vocoder, 8 parts instead of 6 and up to 44 voices..

I have reaktor myself on my pc actually.. it's not totally bad, but after i got my supernova i haven't touched it :D same goes for simsynth.. i can't wait to get totally rid of my pc for anything but recording..

Yeah that was what I was talkin bout Chriss, what do you think of the A station rack, I played with that too and thought it was great, lots o knobs, fatttt sounds, thought it would complement the Triton and the few soft synths I already have pretty well. You check out my tunes? I need some peoples who are interested in electronic stuff to critique it for me and figured you were one such dude.

Laj

i'm downloading the last one now and i'll get back to ya tomorrow..

oh.. btw.. the a-station is the only novation synth with good presets.. the novas and such demands your own tweaking..

fine piece of equipment.. gotta luuuuw putting the all the oscillators at double and then go unison.. damn that's fiiine.. and finally panning is tempo synced..
just a shame it's only monotimbral..

Yeah I like it alot, may just be the next purchase as it is on ebay for around 400.

Laj

Hey Chriss, Tex, you guys check out my tunes, are they that bad????

Laj

sorry.. i've been busy making some cyber outfit and going clubbing.. i'll get back to ya..
