I have a Sony TC-366, and about 42 tapes that were all given to me, all containing Vinyl dumps of some INCREDIBLE records.

I've been transcribing them all, one by one, to my computer, in CD audio format, so that I can have my way with them.

I want to sell/get rid of the machine/tapes once I am done, but I do not know what to do with all of the music files once I am done.

WHat would you do?

(btw, this is a record collection ranging from 1970-1975. It rocks.) :D

well....

I think that you could put the tapes in a box and use Media Mail to send them to me. I could use a bulk eraser on them and put the blank tape to use.

there are four things you can do with a computer file:
1. Open It
2. Edit It
3. Save It (or say, store it)
4. Delete It
and that's about it.

Since you've asked. - I'd probably do #4.
(also, I would not sell the tapes nor the machine. I would listen to them. :)

What would I do?

I'm a pack rat so, I would probably keep the machine and the tapes so long as I had the space for the stuff.

On day, you might discover a better format then CD Audio to store them digitally and want to transfer them to "that" new format...what ever "that" may be like Super Audio CDs.

Or, if you're the paranoid type, and fear big brother will knock on your digital door one day, it might be cool to show the G-Men where you got all that music from in the first place. :D

It's up to you. ;)

Cheers! :)

...and if you really DO want to clear your space of those tapes, I'm just up the road in the Dallas area and would be glad to "pay the freight" to have the music. I am stuck in the analog world, so I collect what I can get on R2R

Huh,
I am stuck in fantasy world. So at the moment I have a fantasy that The Road To Hell is not a One-Way street.
So, may I suggest to you a solution:
:D :D :D

A hot babe with a reel of tape in her hand... I think I'm in love.

OH you guys,.............

somehow i knew I'd get that response, seeing as how I posted this in the ANALOG ONLY forum.

The fact is, I'd LOVE to keep it, but I just don't have the space.

It's an INCREDIBLE music collection. I'd like to see it go to someone who would actually LISTEN to them, maintain the machine that they were originally recorded on, and enjoy the music. The last time these tapes were touched (before I got to them) was about 25 years ago. So, yeah. Once I am done transcribing them, I'll let y'all know :-)

I'm content with the CD format for listening purposes. As much as I think it sucks ass.

seriously though,
You've said you "don't know what to do with music files". And I'm kind of puzzling what exactly do you mean here. What do you mean you don't know? Burn CDs and listen to them. What else? :)
Some people squeeze their music (files, that is) :) into a palm-device and then REALLY have their way with it. You can do that too , I suppose, since the space is the issue :D

I guess I was just bored and wanted to just post a thread about my doings.

I just wanted to know what YOU would want to do with the files, and/or the tapes.

haha
