Hi
I've been using Home Studio 2002 since it came out and have a coupla questions:

-I'm getting ready to install a new soundcard and am wondering if there will be any problems when working w/ projects I'd recorded w/ the last (stock) card.

-Is there anything, in terms of sound quality only (not ease of use, or different plug-ins, etc), that makes any of the newer editions of HS or Sonar superior?

Thanks so much for your help.

I switched one computer from a sounblaster card to a Presonus Inspire 1394. The inspire had no problems with the recordings I made with the sounblaster. And it didn't have any problems with the recordings I made with the other three sound card/software combinations I have used in the past. I would think that any "better" sound card would have no problems with recordings made by "lower quality" sound cards.

I do recommend that you disable the current sound card in Windows device manager before installing the new card/interface. Then, you will probably need to do some setup in your audio software to tell it that it has a new souncard to talk to. The audio software usually does not automatically detect, or know, that it has a new card to talk to.

I recently got access to a pretty good laptop. I've made some recordings with the internal sound card, and them used those recordings with the Inspire attached externally. No problems at all. I just make sure that the unused sound device is disabled, and the software is set to use the active device. I switch back and forth easilly.

However, the "lower quality" sound card can have problems with the recordings from the "better" sound card. I can record 24bit 96kHz with the better card and the other card can't play back anything but 16bit 44100Hz.

You'll probably have to select the sound card outputs when you pull up an old project & select the inputs when you want to add new audio etc. That's what I have to do when I transport my Pro Audio bundles from 1 comp to another with diff 'cards.
