Hey everyone, this is the first time i've ever posted on here. You all have such great suggestions, and know so much that i decided to become a member. I am looking into buying a new vocal mic. I was on a budget so I just used Akg's C1000S for a little while, that got me through, but now I have a bit more of a budget, ranging from 4 to 500. A guy I know at Guitar Center said that Blue is the way to go for the price. Any suggestions on what you guys have had success with would work great. I'm also looking for an 8 channel mic pre-amp for my drums. Any affordable pre-amps you guys can think of would be great. Thanks A bunch

For vocals, I would recommend something with a Large Diaphragm. Preferably one that you like, and that sounds good on your voice.

As for the 8-channel preamp, I'd probably look at a decent mixer ala Soundcraft and just use the inserts.

AT 3035, 4033 or CADmwhatever, SP C1
Chess is right on with the 8 channels for cheap

. . . Shure KSM-whatever / SM-7, EV RE-20, Blue Babybottle, Audio Technica 4047 / 4050, Groove Tubes MD-whatever, ADK TL / TC whatever . . . should I keep going?

Josh, with a $500 budget you can get at least 3(!) good vocal microphones.
Here are some questions to help out;

1) Would you like to use a microphone for both live/studio?
2) How good (or bad) does your recording room at home sound?
3) What other gear are you planning to get (or have)?

Chris

P.S. Sell any C1000's unless it works well for you.

If you really want a cheap 8 channel preamp, go for the Behringer ADA8000
