What type of mic is this?

Ok i was looking at a website www.underdogentertainment.net they help produce many talented artists.

So anyways... I was looking at their pictures and i was wondering what type of mic that is (look at the link provided) and what that black peice hanging off it was.

That's a condenser mic with a pop gard in front of it.

yeah you're right its the Sony C-800G, the thing attached to it
could be the vacuum tube? also w/ a pop filter in front as noted.

Apparently that's the cooling fins for the tube. Freakish looking thing, no wonder it doesn't get much press here. That, or that it costs $6500

I actually did a search on here about it and this came up, its got a clip of it being used, it sounds really nice!
Apparently Dr.Dre, 50cent and all that use it.

The Sony C800 is a VERY commonly used mic on vocals in a lot of major studios, but it never really gets talked about. I am used to seeing the cooling fins, but it seems like this pic has "more" of it than I remember. However, it has been a very long time since the last time I even saw a c800 in person.

It doesn't look like a Studio Project T-3 to me.

It does look like a Sony C800-G.

However they sell for as little as $4,500 now, not $6,500.

If that's the Sony C800 with the Peltier-based cooling system, I thought it ran around $9,000.00. It would have a PAC tag at the end of the model number. The straight C800 (without the Peltier-based cooling system) is a lot cheaper.

Those sony's are great.
I have recorded a bunch of vocals with one.
I never bothered to get one though, as there are other mics in that range I like better for most of the type of music i work on, like the U47/67.

If I found a sony for 4500 I would get it though....
