what to buy

im looking to purchase my first digital workstation, i've been looking at the boss br864 and fostex mr-8. It's clear that the boss offers more features, but if i have a pod for effects and am not dying for the rythm guide, is there much of a difference. Or is there anything better out there, im hoping to only spend 300-400. I plan on recording my band as well as solo projects, and since im new to recording im lookign for somthign easy to use, but still offering everythign i need. Thanks.

Both machines are aimed at your end of the market, meaning they don't expect you to have exensive recording experience in order to operate one.

Both are from respected manufacturers and both offer warranties if you buy new.

And I'm sure I don't need to tell you again what you must have heard from older folks like me over and over --- that either one of these will sound SOOOOO much better than the cassette machines that my generation learned to love recording on that it's not EVEN funny...
