This is most defiantly NOT my style of music…..but, was done for a reason.
I put it up on NWR so the guy who’s voice features in it could download it from wherever he is. (South America at the moment……I think)
Background:
A good buddy of mine who I spent quite a lot of time with in the Saudi Oilfields is returning home on rotation to California. On his way back he calls in to spend a few days with us here in Dubai. One evening after much beer and nonsense, he starts asking about this home recording stuff, so I fire up the PC and give him the guided tour. He spots some headphones and a mike and I know he aint gonna take much persuading. So on go the cans with attached mic (10 dollar crap, you know the type, computer stuff with little boom mic attached). Anyway I encourage him to just bullshit away and he duly obliges. I just hit “R” and let him rip, no music or backing just him with verbal prompting from me.
Anyway he goes home to California and I set about cutting, dicing and chopping in the hope of embarrassing him as much as is humanly possible. I put some loops and stuff together and add the voice over.
The California thing is relevant cause everybody gives him shit about it…….you know “homey in the hood” “word up dude” and Jay Zee in the house, hence the style of music.
So next time we meet up in Saudi I’m armed with CD of this and other similar stuff which got played in the common room on the compound for all to enjoy, needless to say I have since made it to John’s shit list.
Golden memory:
Driving through downtown Al-Khobar at night in huge behemoth pickup with this on at ear bleeding level and four guys inside all doing a good impression of Wayne’s World. Guess you had to be their, maybe it was our way of putting up two fingers after one of the guys was blown to kingdom come on the last hitch. (Light and Shade)
Sorry to go on forever about that, but I guess it’s a bit of a private joke and I thought some background might help.
