i love the sonar 2 UI
for now i wouldnt change it for anything :)

Sonar always does what it is supposed to do, and does it well with few or no glitches. I don`t have any problems with it at all. Any problems I may encounter are with what, and how, I`m putting stuff into Sonar, and what "I" do with it when it passes thru. I`m learning more and more that the bells and whistles of the software have a limited impact on the final results. It`s all in the trak material, the methods of using the software, and not the software itself. Sonar is really easy to use for a graduate from PA9.

Which version of Sonar 4 has the time-alignment feature? They call it "Beat Detective" in ProTools.

I've been using it since V3. It was the first sequencer I actually managed to get anything sensible done with. I later got V6, and then CWHS 2002, but when I got the 8-track (Fostex A8, switfly replaced with a Tascam TSR-8) I discovered that HS2002 couldn't lock to SMPTE.

Since there was no upgrade path, and I was pretty much skint at the time, I found a shrinkwrapped copy of Sonar 1.0 on E-bay, registered it and upgraded to 1.33. This version does everything I need, so I'm intending to stick with it. My next sequencer will be Linux-based.

Like Beltrom, I started computer based music composing since the dark days of DOS. It was Voyetra Sequencer Plus Gold and MQX32 ISA MIDI card + Creative SB16 ISA audio card days. I'd been happy with them, until one day, people talked about Windows 3.1 with hum and whistle. So I went to the store and ready to enter bright world of Windows. Beside Win 3.1, I bought big book called "Computer Music" which included Master Track Pro and Soundforge demo on close out. The book covered almost any softwares on the market that days, including Cakewalk 2.0 which got my attention. So, within few months, I went back to the store and ask for Cakewalk 2. They said, Cakewalk Pro 3 for Windows was just released. So I bought it on single floppy disk and Soundforge 3 on 2 disks. Since then I devoted to Cakewalk. Cakewalk enter audio world since vers. 4, and add "Pro Audio" on the tittle. Upgrade Pro audio 4 to 6, 6 to 9, 9 to Sonar 2XL, Sonar 2XL to 3 producer, 3 Producer to 4 Producer... So many reasons for me to stick with Cakewalk, for those who knows it's power, there's no need to compare it to Cubase nor PT... it's simply the best!

I love Cakewalk. The interface can be a little intimidating in the beginning but it's pretty intuitive.

I've always used Cakewalk-software. And I'm sticking to the best. ;)

Where have you been these times, moskus? Don't you miss us here?

I do! I seriously do! :)

But... I'm just too busy these days. I hate that!

Sonar is easy to use. No stupid copy protection. Lots of features.

However, Sonar won't run with UAD-1 on my system. So I have ordered SX3 expecting to make the move in a week or two. It's not as intuitive. It has the awful dongle. Otherwise I think the two are largely comparable, both have something the other one should have.

What's the specific problem?
I along with many others run both Sonar and a UAD-1 card with few or no problems at all.
It would be an waste of money if you found out your problem was not related to your host software.

Friends don't let friends use Cubase.

The problem I have with UAD-1 and Sonar has been intensely discussed in Cakewalk Forum. In particular I can't loop which I do a lot while adjusting mix, recording or just rehearsing a solo. It' crash, crash, crash. Someone else with the same setup as me (MSI motherboard, AMD Athlon, fireface 800) has these problems too and have tried everything possible. Now he doesn't use UAD-1 anymore. For some UAD and Sonar together works, particularly those who don't have AMD processors. On the other hand a lot of users don't care about looping, so that may be why it works for them.

I can't exclude that other plug-ins contribute to the problem. I also use Charlie Retro Organ and BFD drums. However, it all works in a Cubase 2 "demo" without any problems. Whatever you may think of this, it was the only way of doing a real test of my system. Also I have ordered a legal copy of SX3 last week.

i first downloaded a crack of PA9, and after about 3 weeks, I learned how to use pro audio software. I preceeded to buy the program, and I still use it today. When I get out of high school (2 months KA), spare money galore, i'm buying sonar 4. What's the difference between producer and studio edition anyway?

Nothing beats cakewalk in midi, got so used to it, now can't even imagine doing midi without sonar. For audio I use both.

I am hooked on v6.0

Yea hard to believe when I in fact bought v8.0. I just like the simplicity of v6.0 and its integration with Sound Forge. I know I sound insane and I might actually be. I want to know is Sonar really a better option for me. I dont care about a bunch of fancy graphics really. I can tell you I know how to use v6 and I still like it. or I would have changed.

Guitar Tracks Pro 2 and 3 are just easy to use and full of all the features I need

There are no compelling reasons to use Sonar unless you want time latency adjusted plug ins, the most advanced midi implementation on the market, widest range of plug in options i.e. VSTi and DXi, unlimited external bussing groups, Pow-r dithering, multiple pan laws, the list goes on.

And the color schemes....
