I'm looking into picking up a preamp, and have been considering the Toft ATC-2. I've read Fletchers review several times and all the wacked out comments on the Harmony Central thread (several times). I understand perfectly well what Fletcher was saying in his review, and it sounds as if the Toft unit would be a sweet unit for the home/project studio, which is my use. In fact it's probably seriously overkill, but I have a hard time spending my money on crap, and I'd rather spend it on something I'm going to be happy with and adds the flexibility that the Toft brings with the usable EQ and compression.
In fact I had picked up a Focusrite Voicemaster Platinum, but sent it back deciding that I might as well spend the extra few hundred and pick up a keeper.
There's been virtually no noise (talk) on the Toft though over the past year. Any current thoughts from anyone or what might make a better complete unit (Pre, Compressor, EQ) in the $1000 range? Or less if there's a killer deal I'm not thinking of.
