I want to buy a 21 inch monitor and was wondering which was the best regarding refresh rate, quality of image etc... for under $550. How about the Syncmaster for $506, or a NEC 22 inch for $530. Are any of these two monitors any good? Please recommend me something!!

Go to a store and audition them. Monitors are like speakers.

you can get 2 flat screen(not flat lcd style) 19inch monitors for 135-150 each.. run a dual monitor setup

It depends on what ou want to use the monitor for. Is it a gaming monitor? Is it a DAW monitor? LCD's are nice when you use them at their native resolution and save desktop space. CRT Flat screens are more flexible but take up additional desktop space.

If we knew sole use of the monitor, it would be easier to recommend a brand.

where can you get 2 19 inch monitors that cheap?

I like My Flat screen LCD monitor.. No Noise, and no issues about monitors (speakers) being too close.

Hmmm.... my two 19 inch Iiyama black trinitrons did cost a fair bit more then that ;)

Peter.

Where are you getting 19" monitors for $89 each? Compusa has them for like $170.

when you get your sunday paper, look at it..
you'll see monitors 19inch for 89-130each... from bust bust, office max, office depot, compusa and a few other ppl...

not to be rude, but I don't believe you. Cheapest I found was $170. I looked through the old paper even.

the monitor is for my DAW, i don't mind a crt because i'll get some monitors with shielding so i don't have to worry about interference..maybe a close guitar will cause problems....

don't belive lol, my sister got 1 before she when back to denver..129 then a instant rebate, she paid like 100-105 with tax.. she got her monitor around lenox...
let me see if i still have any adds from last sundays paper...

Hmmm... I don't know if I'd even touch a 19" monitor that was that cheap.

When things are that cheap, its because corners were cut. Chances are those monitors have a higher dot pitch and don't work at higher frequencies.

Having worn glasses since I was 5, I value what good sight I have left. Its not worth it to go with cheaper products and cause injury or irreversible damage to your vision or bring on unwanted headaches. Spend the extra $$ and buy a quality product.

that could be true, i think it was a no name monitor, i have no idea how the quality is... locally, there s this small store that has 21inch nokia's for 220-250.. they might be even cheaper...
