oh yeah.... samich17,
i really liked your music. birthday bash was an interesting mix. i liked the mix of rap and vocal singing. rabbit was pretty cool also. i hear some interesting effects in certain sections of the song. cool stuff. i especially liked the beginning section the most. i personally would have changed the chord change efter the lyric "pins and needles". but thats just me. and its your song...
but thanks for the comments on my tunes. keep in touch. i think we have a similar style.

hey VOXVENDOR,
maybe you can put some lyrics to some of my songs, because i suck at writing lyrics. try something out here and let me know what you come up with please, ok?

Hey, I like your tunes... those are pretty cool songs....

Im not really into the writing thing... I don't even like doing it for MY songs... so I probably wouldn't be very reliable... :)

Thanks for asking, and Im happy that you considered me for the task..

If you need something to motivate or inspire you to write then you are not a writer at heart. Writers write non stop.. Write write write write write.. and I don't care if your writing songs, romance novels, or train schedules thats the best way to become a writer. And if you take that advice what you will find is that the actual writing itself will inspire you to write! It's sort of a circular logic type of deal.

Other good songs are usually what inspire me to write. For instance "The Luckiest" by Ben Folds inspired me both to learn piano and write a song. I had a demo done in one night(I used to play, all it took was a half an hour or so to remember). It was hard not making it sound like "The Luckiest" as I ended up writing it in the same key, but it sounds origional to me...

Occasionally I will write in pure rage when I'm real pissed off, or when I get that warm fuzzy feeling inside for seemingly no reason though.

LOL! I gotta laugh at myself, Vox! Since I couldn't quite make out your lyrics when I heard this tune I heard you saying "Now tell me are you noticing something wrong?"

Which suits *my* favorite subject of awareness. :D

And as far as writing for acceptance, yeah, that's almost always a part of it for people who write hooky music. I don't feel like I need acceptance from other people, but songs only flourish and live when they ring in people's ears. I love it when other people like a tune that I wrote, but I still keep writing the songs that aren't as catchy.

Take care,
Chris

Thats cool, I wish I could be like that.... and I have sat down and tried to write something deep, but when I do that, it just comes out bland....

You know those opening chords of Smells like Teen Spirit...Well that what it's all about for me... I gotta have a hook.... When Im listening to stuff on the radio, it's always the hook that grabs me...

By the way, I was just having a laugh at what you said above... I remember a few weeks back you were saying, that at odd times in the day, this tune starts running through your head.... All that time, it was the wrong words in your head :D

Well, I can say that I have managed to write "Black Bird" twice in about 10 years and get so proud of myself until I realize the Beatles stole it from me...about 10 years before I was born! ha...
I write because I have a storm in my head and I am always thinking. I write to try to convey them to myself and to others, though most never hear them. The inspiration comes from what ever Im going through at the moment. I have certain issues and relationships in my life that flow in and out of the present and these inspire much of what I write.
Recently I was under way as a Marine in the Persian Gulf for 6 months. I had 30 'wonderful' days and nights in the 'beautiful' deserts of Kuwait.....all without a shower....and used that time at night and in the early morning to write and think....I guess just to think. Because that is my personal biggest problem....now Im back, swelled up in a life, I dont have time to think. On ship, I was going through my "Return of Saturn" (astrology when your about 29 1/2, Saturn returns to its origional place in the Universe when you were born....I think No Doubts record was inspired by Gwens return....its a cosmic report card of sorts...not that I know jack about it but a dear friend does and she told me that was influencing what I wrote at the time). In 2 months, I wrote 5 songs, complete, lyrics, and music and they stand alone with an acoustic guitar. I guess Im babbling but I agree with what someone already wrote..that it is important to write something every day...even if it is crap...because it is an art and you can train yourself to write....Marines call it "muscle memory" where you instinctivly do something through repettition. For me, writting in journals every day is a good tool...now if I can just do something about procrastinating!
Finally, check out a book called "Songwritters on Songwritting" by Paul Zollo. Great interviews on this exact subject. Also a book called "Written in my soul, conversations with rocks greats" or something. I havent seen this one in years so the title may be a little off....but in the first one mentioned, Lenord Cohen says he works on a song sometimes for years!.....I'd kill for just some of his scraps!
Great topic....
Take care,
Michael

I don't write very often, but when I do it's because the words or music (rarely both at the same time) MUST come out. I can't explain it, really. It's like the feeling you have when you need to go to the toilet.

I recently started writing lyrics again. I remember writing all the time as a child but life started happening and I think I got lost. One day after my wife left me I went and bought a drum set (I've always wanted to play the drums) and then lyrics started coming back to me. My first songs were mostly about how I felt during that time. As I feel I'm able to grow again I've writing about different perspectives on things even if it's now how I feel about something.

Occassionally I'll wake up in the middle of the night and have a song in my head but I can keep it in my head for days weeks or months until I'm ready to write it down. I also get ideas about songs from conversations with people and all the interesting phrases that are used when communicating with someone else. Additionally, I have the opportunity to explore the dark side and write lyrics about being crazy...or maybe I'm just writing crazy lyrics....or maybe the lyrics are writting themself.

Thanks for playing
