*Doh*

I hadn't heard aboot the QC issues they're having... (or the compatibility problems with GeForce 4's...) well it's a good thing you ran across those.. I could given you some really bad advice.. :p

Gigabyte has been known for their stability, so this is actually a bit of a surprise to me... in which case I would go back to recommending the Soyo (or the Asus A7V333). The Soyo has respectable performance and boucoup features, so it's still a great board.

P.S. Epox have long since had stability problems,.. and the EP-8K3A+ is said to be no exception.

features vs ease of use...

greetings,

for me the multitude of features makes the soyo the best choice. its just not worth it to attach USB 2 or raid hardware on top, when i get get them both integrated for another 40$ without potential conflicts and such. especially since even the soyo onboard audio is good and take up as much resources as a third party PCI card anyways. the only thing missing is the thermal protection, which would be a nice safety feature.

but that onboard audio can be disabled doesnt it? because i´m really gonna get that delta 1010......

yes.. I disabled it when I first got my Delta 44 (it's the same on-board sound for the Dragon Plus and Ultra)...

but you don't have to... at the moment I run both... I run the Delta 44 to my headphones for recording/mixing in n-Track, and I use the on-board sound for average every day listening. Once I get some good near-fields though, I'm gonna switch totally over the the Delta... but for now, this works well and there are no conflicts.

why the f*** does the bbs post twice everytmie a hit the back button, it annoys me, this double posting!!!!!!

oohhhhh....

For now I think that the Dragon Ultra is the way to go....one piece of the puzzle less to worry about......now if I only knew if those Zalman heatsinks are worth the money for cooling my athlon and keeping things quiet........hmmmmm

NO! :p Those things are all hype.. :p First off,.. they're not passive... you still have to use a fan, and it's even harder to install, since you can't mount it on the HS. Check oat Dan's Data for a pretty good review on a whole bunch of HS/F's.

P.S. I use the Silverado... it's pricey, but well worth it.

hey WATYF, what do you mean with "... since you can't mount it on the HS..." I thought the Zalman IS a heatsink fan??? Is the Silverado quieter than the Zalman??? is it quiet at all???? What case fans do you use?

The Zalman HS's are goofy lookin' devices made of a big bunch of thin copper (or aluminum, or gold plated, etc.) fins spread oat like a peacock's tail. Therefore, you can't actually mount the fan on that goofy lookin' thing, since there's no place to put it. Instead you have to suspend the fan "near" the HS using a mouting contraption that they give you. After all that trouble, the cooling and quiet factors are highly unimpressive. Check oat This review for a further explanation and for benchmarks showing the Zalman's lackluster performance.

When it comes to case fans and coolers, I can most likely help you, because I just went through an "upgrade" on my system to get it cooler and quieter. After much research I decided on the Silverado. It's a unique design. It runs quiet,.. and it cools well. You will see brenchmarks for it in the article I provided above, and further info aboot it here. It wins hands-down in the quiet/cooling ratio. I am quite satisfied with it myself. I have it set on the 10v setting and it's quiet and yet still cools well. Right now my CPU temps sit around 38-40.

As for case fans... I would recommend either the Silencer fans from PC Power and Cooling or the Vantech Stealth fans (available all over the net) Both are almost identical in their specs. Right around 28 CFM's and 20 dBA's. I went for the Silencers because they were cheaper (18 bucks shipped for a pair) than the Vantech's, but both are very similar fans. They're very quiet and keep my case temps down to 30. (that's with only two of em running).

hey watyf, it seems like a need your help in finding the other parts I need for my new pc, i think it would be easier if we could exchange information per email instead of posting here, of course if you want to help me out.... this is my address

hope to hear from you soon!!!!

I'm using an epox 8KHA+ with an 1600xp processor and delta 1010 and it works great, I've had no problems with it for about 6 months now.

Yeah... the epox boards, quite frankly, are usually the fastest. But their lack of features and their history of instability has sort of lead me away from them in the past. I've read one account so far that the instability has carried over into their KT333 board also. I run a server, so one of my first concerns is stability and I just can't take the chance.... But they are darn fast. :p
