Peavey ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Howdy everyone,

Well, what an inspiring week! No long stories why, but I've been in a mood to write and this is the newest. What kind of music do you hear behind it? I haven't even touched the guitar, yet- I wrote this today while driving around for work.

(This one was inspired a bit by the rhyming thread, too. I tried to keep the verses in AABC DDAC. Kinda fun and challenging.)

Chris

“The Mouse and the Eagle”

(Verse)
At times I feel I’ve got tiny ears
That stress and stretch and strain to hear
The faintest hint of coming danger
And scurry back to my hole

And when I’ve wandered out too long
I get the sense that something’s wrong
And cast my eyes about in fear
Of something I don’t know.

(Chorus)
It’s a wide, wide world when you feel so small
I’ll just hide in the grass from the size of it all
I won’t even see the sky when it falls
Just the ground I’ve always loved

(Verse)
At times I feel I’ve got broad wings
That catch the lift of the wind as it sings
And carries me far from coming danger
To a freedom lost to the low

And when I’ve soared above too long
I get the sense that something’s wrong
My eyes have shown me all the things
I never wanted to know

(Chrous)
It’s a wide, wide world that makes me feel small
I’ll just hide in the sky from the size of it all
I wish I could stay in the sky till it falls
With the winds I’ve always loved

(Ending)
So the mouse will stay will his brother and sisters
And hide in the brambles and stone
While the eagle will soar above ever so high
The eagle will soar alone
The eagle will soar alone

Hey Chris, Looks like a chidrens song...I'm not very well versed in that style..Maybe piano and musicbox sounds..Something lite though..Good work...Wish I could have something more constructive to say...

Hey Chris,
Yeah....maybe simple soft strummin' guitar and some ambient sound.....could work...unique structure here....
Cool!
Joe:)

deffinatly a swaying 3/4 of some sort.....perhaps a tom waits kinda deal, but nothing obsesive and demanding to the listener, the a well constructed set of lyrics, so you don't want anything thats gonna blow 'em out of the water.....keep it simple, with plenty of silence betwen notes... i like the idea of the music box, percussive and melodic....

It sounds to me like something the band phish could have wrote on one of their later albums....

Well, despite Voxvendor's assertion that I wanna be Kid Rock, this didn't end up feeling like a kid's song when I got home. Talking about animals is cute, so I see where the idea came from, but the metaphor beneath it is a bit heavy for kids.

I swear, guys, I didn't have any ideas for what this song would sound like and this is just what the guitar seemed to want. (It could be that I'm just in a hyper-rocking good mood today...)

Thanks for your comments- I have some things to think about here if I decide to take the song in a different direction. I've never done any of the things that have been suggested - maybe I should, eh?

So here's the rough draft:

http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/10/1247/singles.shtml

At the bottom, called "The Mouse and the Eagle"

Please excuse the horrible tracking and poorly played bass- I'm still working out the arrangement and so didn't spend too much time getting things spiffed up.

Whew. I gotta stop writing songs so I can sleep...

Take care,
Chris

Chris loved the song man alot: How do you record your accoustic guitar, you could point me to the link where you explained it before if you don't want to do it again: just curious, i've never had to much success with doing accoustic things but I want to

I love dr. Colossus idea as Tom Waits is my biggest hero and influence, but...

I hear this like a Blues Traveler type thing. Like one of their more melodic songs like Canadian Rose or Run Around.

Chris- well done. I can "hear" a distorted lead guitar wailing away in the background.
P Hallin - You will be happy to know that Tom Waits is just as cool a guy as he seems, and very down to earth. I met him once in LA and spent about an hour just taliking music and life with him. My favorite Waits line is when he was asked what his "ideal" woman would be.
Waits: "A hooker who owned a liqour store"!

:D Bob

I hear a Cross Between Rita Mc Neil and Leif Garret. Maybe even a touch of Jackyl, somewhere in between the two others...:D

Rats, somehow I missed your comments this weekend...sorry.

Depending on which version you heard (on the 2nd it would have been a slightly different version than whats up there now) the body of the guitar would have been the C1's. The newer recording has the main sound provided by the 603's.

P Halin: Tom Waits has come up often enough that I should probably look into his music. Can you believe that I haven't, yet?

Bob: Thanks. Hmmm...I can hear what you are talking about with the distorted lead. I'll play around with that. I just hate breaking out the electric. :D

Vox: I was actually going for a cross be Britney and Kid Rock, with just a hint Rob Zombie in the middle. Its kinda cool how if you pan Britney left and Kid Rock right, and bring Zombie up to a -12dB in the center...it sounds just as bad as Britney by herself. :D

Chris

*LOL*

Try Putting Britney and Rob Zombie in the Left speaker together.... That might get you a "Cher" sound..... :D

Chris thanx for the link, and definately do check tom waits out.....he is a great song writer, one of the best ever and highly underrated outside the world of the songwriter.....

Buffalo - Im so jealous...
Chris - Repent for your sins and seek out the music of Tom :)
I recomend Small change for a melancoly, beautiful mood, Heartattack and vine for a rawer mood, The heart of saturday night for a groovier... A what the hell I recommend it all.
Nave - Yes recording and playing wise he definately is underrated, because he allows himself to be less than perfect.

Hi Chris,

Sorry I'm wading in late.

How 'bout adding two lines to the chorus and taking this
down to Memphis???

Tom Waits-----even my 17 yr. old daughter listens to him.
Great stuff.

Hi Chris.....this is one of the best lyrics I've read on this BBS. You're right about the meaning that it holds...this ain't no kidee song. Tom W......? Maybe, but more like Chris, I think. Ever hear " The Eagle and The Hawk" by John Denver?? Kinda similar but not so close that there would be a problem . Try some contrast in the sound/feel between the two characters . The mouse, close in figity, intense , paranoid victim ; the Eagle expanding , lifted, distant, superior, predatory . Know what I mean ??

Hey Chris.
Nice Lyrics.

I always, when I read someone else lyrics and before I listen to their song, try to put some kind of music to them.

Someone had mentioned folk, and that's what came outta my Yamaha APX-9NA.
I like your lyrics, music and style.

Hi Chris,

Listened to your song--thread I posted above shows how
far my head was up my a**.

The tune runs very well just as you played it...

I'm writing this as I listen again---All I can say is maybe
a little mandolin or fiddle for fill would be nice---

Definately my kind of sound
