Hey I want a keyboard to use as a midi controller for my coming studio and i want sounds like chello or violin and the like. The problem is i would really like to not spend that much money. thinking like 200 to 240....... Any ideas?

a pink one would be so cool, pity i cant afford one:(

You could look at the Yamaha "home" keyboards...you can get midi connections, touch response (when you hit the keys softly the sound is soft, when you kit the keys hard it is communicated and you hear a hard hit, like a real piano) and 32 note polyphony (the keyboard can produce 32 tones/voices at once, useful if you are sequencing multiple parts, for instance, drums, bass, etc.)...Musican's Friend has a PSR292 and a PSR273 that has these features within your price range...they will have 100's of sounds, including orchestra instruments such as cello and violin...you probably should try to play one before you buy to see if you are happy with the sounds.

Cool about those yamaha ones but I just found out my band members have keyboards with sounds. i need a great midi controller for sonar 3. I was looking at the roland Edirol ones like mabey the pcr50 or something like that. I got about 250 to 300 to spend. They have 8 faders 8 sliders and 9 keys to control the recording and mixers. Also they have 5 savable configurations for each area.

Didn't we have this conversation in another thread??? :)

I sure didn't like the feel of the Edirols, but I've heard from others who do. I didn't particularly like the M-Audio's feel either, but I got one anyway. Frankly, all of them feel pretty junky. It remains to be seen how they hold up over the long term.

The new Keystation Pro 88 will be the new standard probably. Lots of controls, ok feel, not too heavy, and a very reasonable price.

yeah i have been looking hard at the pro 88 and i can afford it but it is sooo big. My studio furniture is only 52 inches across and the m-audio is like 57. I mean I can and very well may buy it if i cant find something else but it is just sooo big. I love the amount of midi control but i dont need that big of a keyboard.

Are there any other keyboards with less keys that have comprable midi control? Mabey the same keyboard as the pro 88 just with like 61 keys?

Last question. If i want sounds for my keyboard what type of module do i need. iwant good strings especially. How much does this stuff cost?

I got lucky and found a lightly used SL 990 for $300@ the local Guitar Center.
I like the feel of the weighted keys and it's metal case is rugged.

I'm just using it at home so it should hold up forever

I bought a Kurzweil K2000R for $400 on eBay and it has really nice cellos and
violins . I'm a guitarist so it's really nice to have very realistic strings to
use in a variety of ways; limited only by your imagination
This is a pretty powerful synth module that was a great deal for the money

The programmabilty is DEEP and the basic patches are very usable .

I'm pretty satisified with mine, but's there's lots of upgrades for them.

yeah man thanks alot. I will look into those 2, especially the module. I need a keyboard primarily for midi control and secondly for synths. Thats why the pro 88 looks so nice its just really bigger than i need!
