List your favorite drum overheads. Anything goes. If it is necessary to designate a preamp too, then go ahead.

I figure this can only help add our collective indecision.

I'm going to say, with the little experience I've had, I really enjoyed the AKG C 414 B-XLS, the stereo matched pair. The last studio I recorded in had them over my kit.

KM 84s. Got lucky and got mine cheap.( way less than what theyre going for now).
I also liked Gefell M300s, AKG C 451 EB ck1 and C 460 ck61s.

Oktava MC012 so far, but that's about all i've tried. i've tried AKG C2000B also, but Oktavas were way better.

i have yet to try ADK and MSH mics, but will do it soon.

KM-184's, Earthworks SR-71's, Octava MK-012's or a pair of 4033's.

Two answers really:

Favorite when I'm in a professional studio:
AKG 414EB

Favorite in my studio (with the cheap owner):
Rode NT5s

OHs

Of my mic collection I'd say the Oktava Mk-012 into a Seventh Circle Audio J99 preamps is my favorite.

I love to try AKG 451s or 414s

:D

well as far as mics i own go...then the mxl 603s are sound so warm on my hi hats and crash

451's
mk012's
4033's
Through my DAV BG1(muwahahahahahahahahahaaha)

Second or third the AKG-414's other wise, on the budget, I like the MXL603's with a light touch of cut on the high end with the EQ or run through a tube pre for a little softening of the highs. They're very useable.

I'm all for the underdogs

Peluso CEMC6
Josephson C42
Avenson STO-2

That mic is no under dog....i want a few....anyway, i also agree that the 603s are very usable, but i do need to cut highs sometimes...good point

a pair of gt44's is incredible for the small cash. I usually use a pair of bottles

this bears repeating since it would be my exact reply

anybody agree that a 414EB is about twice as good overhead than any other rendition of the 414? CK12 is simply miles ahead IMO. I'm thinking of retrofitting my non-EB 414s with Peluso (CK12 co py)capsules.
