AKG C451s.

For live jazz recordings I've use a pair of Audio Technica ATM33a.

anybody agree that a 414EB is about twice as good overhead than any other rendition of the 414? CK12 is simply miles ahead IMO. I'm thinking of retrofitting my non-EB 414s with Peluso (CK12 co py)capsules.

Actually, having used most renditions plenty of times, no I would not agree with that statement. Personally, I have never found there to be that large of a difference in sound like some people say. All the different designs have a very wide range of uses, but yes, some do work a little better for some things, but never to the point of not being able to use one where the other would not sound right.

Now the actual C12's, thats a whole different story (and price).

How good are the Peluso capsules? Anyone here used them?

I like jm27s cause they are sooo cheap :D they def aint the best. But you said favorite didnt you.

Beyerdynamic ribbons. Either a pair of M160's or an M160 & M130 in M/S. I like it it way better than my Oktavas or even my Earthworks.

My personal fave is the Blue Dragonfly. This mic has a sort of complex high end. It's hard to describe it any other way. It's a bright mic but it's never grating. One thing people don't talk enough about is reach into the kit. At about 3 1/2 or 4 feet from the snare it captures a nice picture of the kit.

For cheap the MXL 991 doesn't suck.

I've got a pair of Audio-Technica ATM450 side-address pencil condensers here on loan that I need to try out.

For mic pres...

I like the A Designs MP-2 as it sort of puts across the space of the kit.

Just for your and anyone elses knowledge, the 991 is essentially the same as the 603. Just colored and marked differently. Nonetheless, 991/603 are very useful.

List your favorite drum overheads. Anything goes. If it is necessary to designate a preamp too, then go ahead.
I figure this can only help add our collective indecision.
I'm going to say, with the little experience I've had, I really enjoyed the AKG C 414 B-XLS, the stereo matched pair. The last studio I recorded in had them over my kit.
Well, the bullseye target must be on my back again.
I shared my favorite just like you asked and got an unsigned red chicklet AND my rep power went from 155 to 39!!?!?!?!
As you have mentioned above, anything goes, but it appears that only the opinions of some are wanted.
It's like speaking negatively of the current administration.
They are so caught up in their myopic vision of their dastardly and evil plan and their egos are so fragile and juvenile they can't handle the reality of truly seeing their pathetic little boy tyrant ways. (muwahahahahahahahahahaaha) :D
