What's your interface into your computer? Soundcard?

I use cool edit pro 2.0......from the preamp it is connected to the computer by an xlr out to a 1/4 inch plug to a 1/8 inch adapter........I have a cheap dynamic and I just tried the dynamic to the xlr out adapter and it works fine....I have a creative xfi xtreme sound card

I see that you are able to record but the constant static noise is also recorded. My only suggestion is that going from XLR -> 1/4 - 1/8 and into the sound card might introduce some interference and if the tips are not soldered properly you might get something like this. why don't you try some unbalanced output from your preamp (if it has any) and go into the sound card. Or get a analog to digital converter and see if you can send a digital signal into the sound card.

it's curious that it's all negative going in nature... have to take it one piece at a time to eliminate it.... lose the adapters where ya can...

Oh, I see your problem. It looks to me that you're using Windows Vista. :D

I can't believe no one beat me to that!

How did you know?!

Because of the "Licensed to Peter Quistgard" at the top of the screenshot. Every time I see a pirated version of cool edit it's licensed to that poor guy.

For even more fun, google his name, he's pretty popular because of it

my name is Peter...lol just playing

anyways i figured out it was the pre amp , damn art tube amp are so delicate, i messed one up by just tappin on it
