Does anyone know what this is and if it would work to block/lower the sound level leaving a room? I have alot of this at my disposal and if it would work that would rock. It is some kind of compressed foam. I dont know the techical term for it. It comes in 8'X4' sheet and is about 3" thick.
Thanks guys

looks like that solid crumbly type of foam. i don't think it would do much in the way of acoustic treatment. definitely not enough mass for soundproofing.

^^^^^

Exactly why I asked how much does it weigh? If this stuff is that solid light foam that im thinking of it will do close to nothing... stuff is way too light...

i'm pretty sure that's what it is. it doesnt appear to be porous enough to be the softer kind of foam, and its not fibery looking like rockwool or something, so i'd say it won't be of too much help for acoustics. sorry gwayms. :o

A 8x4 sheet does weigh very much? you can definitly move it very easy. It does crumble pretty easy. So probably not very good. That figures, because I can get it for free. LOL
Oh well I guess I will cover all the walls with rigid fiberglass. I have one facing the neighbors house and they said they can bearly hear us playing.
