Heard Waves does fine in the arena of siblance and de-essing control as well as controlling resonant peaks in vocals!.
I use outboard gear anyway,so I don't even know why I responded to this question!:)

I t depends (I'm ripping off Bruce here). It's like asking what's the best car. Are you driving on the Autobahn or Baja? I use the Waves C-1, C-4 compressor plugs and hardware compressors too. It depends.

I perfer to use an out board mic pre on the front end of my digital recordings for a couple of reasons. It saves DSP in the computer if you get the sound set up on the front end. I am using the Focusrite Voice-master on the front of my DP3/ MOTU home studio. The Focusrite is a class a discrete single channel mic pre with EQ, compression, expander, de-esser, and saturator in a single rack space for $500. It is well worth the investment. Inside the computer I use the Native Gold bundle from Waves.

Both opinions are right...

1) There is no right answer for best software...it's what sounds best for your application. I use a Waves C1 BUT...

2) I agree you will get much better results ON VOCALS with an outboard. I use a Valley Audio rack mount I lucked into for $75...not bad vs. $800 new.

I hear a very good inexpensive outboard is the RNC compressor for $179....

Buy one here at a good price...

As a vocalists I can PROMISE you an outboard will work better.

Good luck.

I think when using digital, youll get best results with vocals with a really nice preamp and compressor going in, so ill second zip's opinion....RNC.....

plugins are fine for effects (reverbs, delays, chorus, etc) but using the RNC upfront will get you a nice transparent compression and a good hot signal.......

Yeah...I use that one as well...:) It is nice.

I still prefer an outboard for vocals...

Damn Gidge...

We replied at the SAME time...SAME response (basically)

do de doodoo do de doodoo....

....you have now entered the X zone....lol

I love my RNC and plan on getting a second.

But the C4 is quickly becoming one of my better friends.

c4 from waves

I also heard of Antares Mic Modulator.. Is this good to... $399 retail is it worth the money..

Well, the Mic Modeler isn't a compressor, it emulates (suposedly) different microphones. Turn your Radio Shack Highball into an U87.
Yea, right.

Geesh Track Rat...

...everyone knows it turns it into a U89....lol ;)

You want a U87 (or it's cousin)?? Buy a U87.....
