What is cheapest way to hook guitar to imac?

title says it all. I bought my daughter an iMac for Xmas and want to be able to connect a guitar and record. What is the easiest/cheapest way to accomplish this?

I'd recommend the Line 6 Guitar Port - it's $99, but offers the amp simulation and f/x and is very easy to use for an amateur.

Yeah, any sort of entry-level modeller with a line output or USB/FireWire connectivity would be a good start. Pocket POD maybe, or the affore-mentioned Line6 TonePort.

An even cheaper option would be to buy a cheap preamp to put between the guitar and the computer's line input, then find some free or cheap modelling software to use in GarageBand. GB may even have some built-in effects that would suit your needs.
