The reason why I am asking is that Samplitude has a 2 channel surround option in the pan-settings, and I am wondering if i can use it in a normal stereo mix. I did a little testing, and I havent heard any "fancy psycho-acoustic tricks", but maybe I havent listened close enough

The Samp manual only mentions that it's there, and doesn't explain what it does. The manual is funny that way, with a whole thesis written on some functions, and then a mere mention on others. I've never used it, so I don't know either. I'll try to remember to check it out tonight.

"2 channel surround" fits right in with "jumbo shrimp", "senate ethics" and "semi-boneless ham" as a self-cancelling phrase.

It sounds like a phase trickery plug to me. There should be an eay way to tell for those with Samplitude: pull it up and see what kind of parameter controls it has. When you can see what it controls, that should be a solid indication of just what it does.

It's a Myth. Just like that "Brown Note" crap. To surround yourself with sound, you need to surround yourself WITH sound. Get it?

Ok, here's the deal. If you right click on a pan knob in Samp, it'll bring up the surround panning module. If you're mixing in stereo mode (5.1 turned off), then checking "2 channel surround on" will allow you to mix for Dolby Surround Prologic, and will encode the surround location for a Dolby Surround Prologic reciever to decode at playback.
