Putting a towel over the heads of a couple of friends that were singing was a fave before I made my own pop shield out of a hanger and a pair of tights. The towels were fantastic, I got them to pronounce in an exaggerated way their P's, S's and B's and there was no sibilance or popping at all. Perfect......except that they got so hot and we spent so much time laughing that we got little done. It looked like a couple of sheiks at the mic.
Another odd one was putting a toilet roll cylinder over the end of the mic and wrapping it up with a jumper. I did it coz I was recording an acoustic guitar and drums and I thought I could cut out some of the bleed from the drums. I don't know what possessed me to think of that. It did cut out some of the bleed {compared with times when I didn't do it} but more interestingly, it gave the guitar this weird tunnel-y kind of effect.
Strumming the guitar with a bell or shakers or some percussive instrument in my pick hand seemed like a good idea, I'd do that live sometimes. But it really hurt after a while so I gave up on that after a couple of years. I tried it on a recording once. Ruined the damn thing ! I won't be trying that one again !! :laughings:

I think I am most proud of my VSTi MIDI multiplexer app that allows addressing of a single rank of organ pipes as a dynamically-controlled mixture, and allows use of a single MIDI controller as multiple virtual manuals :) I spent over 100 hours writing that thing . . . :o

You geek!
