I have a Yamaha MD4s and i was wondering how/what format does the Yamaha machines save the audio as when recording to DATA DISKS? I want to be able to take the DATA DISK that i just recorded to and save it onto my computer using a MD DATA driveand convert it into a WAV. file, is this possible?

You can hook the stereo out to your sound card line in and record the wav file that way. I don't think there's a file that can be transfered.

Yes i know how to connect to my sound card but.....

Yes I know that I can connect to my computer this way but I want to avoid additional A/D conversions not to mention real time recording into my computer, I want to just pop the disk in my data drive and have the files on my computer.

the format for minidiscs Rainbow Book Part II, as opposed to Red Book (audio cd's) and Yellow Book (data cd's), isn't as 'movable' as its cousin formats. don't know the exact reason for this, but the ATRAC data compression MD-recorders use, probably plays an important role. that is, if you want to work with the 'raw' data from an MD disc, you'd have to uncompress from the version of ATRAC your machine is using.

somewhere, i've read about this. *checking links*.

found it: www.tape.com/techinfo/minidisc.html

they only say it's not possible, though. check half way down, just above the pictures of the two portable md's.

*idea*: this is a longshot but, i know some pretty expensive sony desktops used to come with an MD-drive. but, i don't what you can do with them.

anyway, good luck.
