Hello all,

I have a quick question. I have a Soundtracs 24x4x2 FMP mixer. On the back for each channel it has a mic input, line input and inject. What is the inject for? What does it do? Also if anyone knows anything about this board regarding quality or problems or anything I would appreciate it as I have the board but know nothing about it and can't find any information on the web about it.

Thanks,
J

INJECT is probably their term for INSERT..........

Sorry - I can't help much with yoru question other than that, I've not heard/used that board myself

If it's an insert like the Bear says, then it is used for inserting external effects into the channel. For example to use an external limiter/compressor you would use a y cord to do this, on one end would be a trs jack which would plug into the channel(inject) and the othe two ends would go in and out of the limiter.

I read a few posts about inserts here and from what I understood you could send out of the insert into say a DAW or soundcard utilizing both the analog board EQ and the plugins. You're saying it doesn't do this. The reason I ask is that I recently got a Digi 002 rack with PT LE and am trying to decide if I should keep the mixer. Then I could mix on the board and then load into the computer givng me more accurate sound on the way into the computer. If I can't use the insert to do this I guess I have to use the busses? Correct? No? I appreciate any help.

Thanks,
J

Check to see if there are direct outs on each channel. Maybe not from your description, but if so--they will typically be post-mic pre, post-EQ, and post-insert in which case it'd be worthwile keeping. In any event, you may want to keep it just for the mic pres and use your inserts to send line outputs to the 002R. The 002R only comes with 4 preamps, so you'll need four additional in any case to use the 8 analog inputs.
