Hey Everybody,
I'm just starting to organize my mic cabinet, and I was just wondering how everyone stores there microphones.

I was actually thinking of buying ones of those mini utility carts with 5, or 6 drawers, and lining the bottom of the drawers with foam, and placing the mics in there for easy access, . . But, I guess I'm kinda concerned with dust getting into the drawers. So, I'm not sure if it would be just better to keep them inside there pouches.

So, I'm just curious to hear what you guys use for a mic cabinet. Do you store them in there pouches, or do you keep them in there foam cases, and organize them in a drawer or something like that? Thanks

....so... I just keep mine on a book shelf or under a mass of tangled cables in a rubbermaid bin... is this bad for the mics?

I have several of those big (like 12x10x8 or so) air tight "left overs" containers I use and keep a big home brew dessicant in with the mics with a hygrometer.

Pics of storage setups would be interesting. Come on... cough 'em up.

Mine are all over the place so I should get them organized. Low humidity in the house so no moisture problems. I keep my better mic's covered with plastic bags if left on stands after use, and in whatever box they came in when not. Those boxes are all over the place in several rooms.

I keep mine in their pouches with desicant bags in each and stuffed in a drawer.

I just kick em under the bed....

Seriously, I store them in the original containers with the little pack of chiclets.

I keep mine in a road case. Since I have some odd shapes, I use a road ready utility case. Kind of expensive, but then again It can fall off the back of the truck and keep the mics in good shape.

I was just thinking about putting up this same Thread a week ago. First i toyed with a glass case. In the case put a few shelves with some sort of humidity control. Kinda like a gun case(but i was thinking a cigar case would work well). Then i was thinking a 5 shelf or more file cab that is real wide might work good. Like maby 2 for dynamic 2 for condesor and one for shockmout. Then i woke up from my daydream and realized i only own 2 mics :p. the sm58 is always on my o.c. white stand, And my at2020 is always with me in my backpack studio.
I need a lot more mics before i can play with the big boys. :o

I would like to see pics too. You spend alot of money to make me drool might as well show the pics.

I keep my really expensive mics at various music stores in glass cases, but someday when i get the money I'll bring'em all home.

:)

I put mine in one of these scope cases I got from a hospital for free. It's got better padding than this one, and it locks! WOW...

I keep mine in small bubble-wrap bags in a canvas
suitcase that I travel to jobs with.
I just got the idea of maybe also putting
the custom wind foam on the mics for cushioning
from shock.

I keep my mics hidden behind a dust bin in town. I go there late at night to collect.

I go by Klaus Heyne's advice and store them in a case(mine are in pelican cases) inside a plastic ziploc bag with packets of silica gel. I invested a lot of money in my microphones, and I want them to be good for a long, long time.
