What do these editing softwares do? And do I need them?

Sorry guys, probably a headslapper but what are these editing softwares and what exactly do they do? And if I'm trying to create a music video (think Clara C or AJ Rafael) will I need one of them?

What do you mean by "editing softwares?" Do you mean audio recording/mixing software or video editing software? Can you give us an example?

Seriously, Vegas, Soundforge, Acid Pro, Maybe Audition/Wavelab, something like that gives you the preper tools to sync, and process it all.
