What Do I Need For Computer Setup????

Do you have the KSM and VTB1 already?

'Cuz they're okay, but not that great if ur using a Windows setup with Audigy (a good soundcard, btw).

I'd go with a Rode NT1, and that new Bellari tube pre. The Rode is clear and smooth, and the Bellari gives it thickness and punch. That's a great mic/pre combo, right there. Not very well known around here, but they're great bargains.
 
Good point. KSM32 is good, but doesn't sound quite right with a Dell computer. You'd be better off with a Gateway. It's a better match with the VTB1.
 
Depends. Those black Dell cases will work fine if you're going for a dark sound.

What If?

I don't Have any of the equipment yet, 2 more weeks, FINALLY, BUT the dell computers on TV look pretty TIGHT for $600, So tell me this, ONE said get the RODE MIC with the dell computer, Well, Would i get better sound with the dell computer, Rode Mic, Audigy 2 Soundcard, and Bellari tube pre. OR with a GATEWAY computer, Shure KSM 32, VTB-1, And audigy 2 soundcard. NOTE: (i already have the Audigy 2 Soundcard) Someone one recommended the gateway cuz the VTB-1 Goes better with it, So should this be the Setup I NEED?

Dude, You should get a DELL.

Those are the best. Personally, and a lot of guys are going to disagree with me, but with my Dell, I think my Behringer B1 sounds AWESOME! It sounds like crap through everything else, but thourgh the Audigy 2 card in my Dell the sound is the EXACT same as a U47 I heard at a friends studio. It might even sound a little better.

I mainly do rap vocals with the Behri, cause the sound is a little TOO in your face for anything else.

For a preamp I use the ART tupe pre. I forget what it's exact model is. But I find that if I hit the tube in their really hard, I get that IN YOUR FACE SOUND! It's like a cross between fifty cent and ja rule.
 
Just get a computer case man. All the insides of a computer are a waste of money. You can hook everything up into it (just dangle the cord into the case) and it gives you awesome performance. Additionally - its silent. The aluminum cases are for German mics. The steel cases are for US Mics. And the cases that have plastic on them are for Chinese mics.
And did I mention it is much cheaper to buy a case instead of a full computer. It looks like today is your lucky day

Since you already have the Audigy 2, you should get the Dell. There are some problems that Gateways tend to have with Soundblasters, but the Dells work just fine.

Then, get the Rode NT1 and the Bellari tube pre. A few people around here don't like the NT1 'cuz they're not matching it up correctly with the pre. The Bellari pre would enhance its warmth and punch (that solid, in-your-face punch), while bringing out its smooth high end.

And you can't beat the price on that type of combo!

Look, if you got the VTB1, it would still be okay, but it wouldn't be as punchy or tight as the Bellari. But the KSM, man, I'm being nice about it, but it's just not that great. And trust me, through the VTB1, it would pretty much sound like garbage. The Rode is the way to go.

MALLCORE POP: I've been on this site 6 months, I think, hahaha, and people keep gettin me to change my mind. So the Rode NT1 And Bellari tube pre huh? Ok ok, ALot of people have been tellin me the KSM 32 is a great mic for it's priced, EVEN compared to some thousand dollars mics, So ur tellin me that the Rode NT1 is just as good as the KSM 32? OR is it just sorry because im gettin the mic with the VTB-1? Alot of people have been tellin me to get the KSM 32 and VTB-1, Now the Rode NT1 and Bellari Tube, I just don't know what to do. BUT since some are sayin the Audigy 2 goes good with the Dell i think i'll get the dell. I guess i have 2 weeks to choose what im a get now.

Arcaxis: So you liked the music, hahaha, Can i ask you where exactly you came upon that link, I look on my page status everyday, and for the last 3 days, around 50 people a day have been listen to my songs, compared to 3 or sometimes 0 the last month. Equipment, thats funny too, A $20 mic from radio shack, my Audigy 2 soundcard, and yes the whole thing was done on computer with cooledit. I know i need some help in my recordin thats why i come on here for help, but everyone just seems to ignore me or call me stupid becuz i guess i ask stupid questions, but it's like they expect me to be a professional you know. SOOO, if u read the top, im havin a debate on what i should get, Which do you think i should get? Thanks again for the props

Is this because the Gain Structure in the DELL is worse than the GGATEWAY? Is the Gateway less expensive? Do they offer free shipping? Can I tell them on the phone what I want and do they use transformer class A pre-amp frontends or are they toob frontends? What operating system should I get? Windows 2000 or windows 98 or windows 95 or lynix? Will you set the thing up for me and show me how to get that phat sound with my ksm mic? Can you give me your phone number so I can call you mostly at night and ask you questions about getting that pro sound with my vtb-1 and my ksm mic into my new Gateway computer?

Hottsauce, you can make great recordings with crap gear, and you can make crap recordings with great gear. The whole difference is how well you understand the concept of recording in the first place, everything from proper mic technique to placement, to gain staging, to signal routing, to proper recording levels when tracking to how and where to use compression...

People (myself included) have been ribbing you pretty hard because you just keep asking "what is the best gear?" when it is clear you have tons of homework to do on HOW to record good sound (remember all those books and websites people recommended?). So quit asking "what is the best.....?" and go and buy some stuff any stuff and start recording and then post your mixes in the MP3 clinic and take people's advice on what to do better, and then you will realize what new piece of gear you need to upgrade. There is no way we can recommend to you what gear to buy when you are unwilling to learn about the process of recording.

Just like someone said, it is like you are asking "I am going up to the Arctic for a year, what should I get?"...well, what do you want to do up there? How much experience have you got? etc etc etc. Just buy something and record.

AND READ THE FUCKING MANUAL
