what difference does it make

I have a small project studio and I am lookin for a new mixer.At first glance a mackie 1402vlz looked like my best bet; but now tascams tm-d1000 is $499 and I am stuck.
Does it matter if the mixer is digital or not b/c I wanted to also get a digital recorder too(akai dr4 or something of the such)to record on. Please help me out. thanks

Wow, I hadn't heard about that price drop...thanks for the news.

IMHO once you get to top-level equipment (i.e. Mackie VLZ) you don't have any noise to speak of anyway. If you have a digital mixer, then the mixer does A/D conversion; if you have an analog mixer, your recorder or soundcard does A/D conversion. I'd rather have a good analog mixer with sufficient channels and preamps and so on, and update the soundcard or recorder if I wanted more quality.

But there's something cool about faders moving by themselves
