What did room treatment do for your sound?

I'm interested in hearing some first hand accounts from members who have treated their spaces. What did it do for you? Just how beneficial was it to your recordings?

Well I hung about 20 pieces of cloth wrapped 703 around the studio and I can tell you first hand that it has made a huge impact in my recordings. Now that it looks more like a studio, it boosts my confidence when I hit the record button.

It's the best $150 I spent on anything music related. It really is the most important thing you can do.

The improvement in my 500 sq.ft. room was drastic enough that I only got around to hanging two thirds worth of the two bundles and figured it was enough to roll tape with my band. The fluttery slappy reverberations with every precussive sound decreased tremendously with only two 4" bass traps and 6 or 8 2" broadband dealies. Stereo imaging out of my various vintage hi-fi gear really sharpened up and everything got much clearer. Rehearsals are great now, too.

The rest of the 703 (actually another brand, but same wt.) will eventually go into spread-out 2'x2' squares or more bass trapping. I haven't decided which is more important.

It really is the most important thing you can do.

It is the biggest improvement in my sound, and I have bought a crapload of gear. I went even further, and went to John Sayers site, and designed my Control Room.

The comparision after/ before the treatment is night and day.

I use the room for mixing (sometimes for ac guitar recordings).Before treatment ,the room was basically useless, and (very common)I was blaming my ears and monitors.

If you follow all advices,with enough number of bass traps (rockwool 4" in the corners, panel in the RFZ and 6" above my mix position, in my case) bass response and, principally, bass reverb (that causes all the boominess and "one bass note" sensation)will reduce drastically.

(Monitor distance of rear/side walls, distance woofer/floor, separated stands,my mixing position at 38% ,a lot of measurements... these things had a big impact in my final result).

I´m satisfied (altough I need a better treatement to the rear wall).
