Tubedude, I believe the WDM is new in PTLE 5.1 which came out in the middle of March. I went an looked at my device manager for the driver for Digi 001 and it showed ".../dalwdm/sys. Technically, two cahnnels should work with just about any program. Granted it is something, but you are loosing most of the capacity of the DIgi 001. I also recall a post where a Digi tech rep replied to a question onCakewalk and Digi 001 and said you should be able to get 2 channels.
j, the reason that Logic works with the digi is because they incorporated Direct I/O, which is the Digidesign proproitary I/O system. I suppose Logic had to license this to get access. As far as I know, Logic is the only audio program with access. TI believe it works well, but there are a few bugs with midi.
A PIII system is certainly safer. I considered one my self. but when I saw the GA-7DX board had worked with the Digi, I decided to take a chance. It worked for me, but others are encountering more problems than I did. Eventually, it will all be figured out, but the Digi tech reps are silent when these questions are posted, because they don't offically support AMD or VIA chipsets, which is what all AMD products run on. A little more help, support and research from Digi could help the AMD ball to get rolling faster.
A final thought, these faster processors are definately going to change things at Digidesign, and everywhere. You formerly needed DSP cards because computers did not have the power to run but 1 or 2 D-verbs, or other power-hungry plugins. My 1.2 Athalon does 14 D-Verbs and the 1.3 Athalon does about 17!!! An the RTAS plugins can be added and changed 'on-the-fly', which is not true in the full TDM PT systems. (A bit of a sore spot!) Whaatever your platform or sound card, more good things are coming!
