Mac

Here's mine:

iMac IntelCore Duo 2GHz
1.5 GB RAM 250GB HD
MBox2 with ProTools LE 7.1

The one you mentioned is discontinued. I'd recommend a Mac Pro for audio/video applications.

I dont know much about apple either, But it should handle the job, how much ram and hard drive space do you have?
that will be more of a factor.
I use a cel 1.8 768 mb ram 160 gb...
but I recorded on my p3 500 768 mb ram 120 gb... It tends to slow down if I go heavey on the plug ins but it can do it.

Im upgrading to sempron 64 3400, or a d 2.8? still trying to decide...
Hey man, you DON'T know what you're losing. I think Macintosh are designed for pleasure. I mean, I'm a graphic designer and all my work is faster and securer. But I also work with video and audio... whoa! With my new iMac I don't have any troubles rendering and editing in ProTools. So... why don't get a mac? Maybe the quetsion is... Why go Mac? Here's the answer:

Get a MAC

I built a DAW starting with an Antec quiet case
ASUS Mboard, socket 939
AMD 3000+ 64 bit CPU
1 Gb RAM (Corsair has good reviews for reliability)
Assorted hard drives, inlcuding an external Lacie that I use in remote work
Dual video monitors driven by an old Matrox dual head card - no fan!
CD/RW, DVD/RW drives. I have to fool with the BIOS to get the DVD recognized; just haven't had time to do it.

Main I/O is a Delta 66; also using Mackie Onyx / firewire mixer for some I/O as well (I like the preamps). A lot of DAW work is transferring stuff from either a DPS16 tracker or laptop / Lacie drive when I'm doing on site recording, and then breathing on the raw tracks. The external drive is great for this as I run it as the primary capture drive with the laptop, take it home and plug it into the DAW and I'm there.

I need to pick up a monitor switching unit like a Big Knob - and more memory. I run into some problems with too many programs open at once. I probably should hotrod WinXP for audio use but haven't done that yet.

I'm presently using Raptor and Adobe Audition 2.0. I have a few other apps loaded, like Tracktion 2 and n-track v.5. I find I'm using the n-track plugins even with Raptor.

A64 3200 socket 754

2G PC3200

2 x Raptor 10k rpm 74gb SATA drives in RAID 0 (software)
1x WD 7200 rpm 80gb SATA (OS)

g4 933.
when i first got it it was a hell of an up-grade, but now i think it's time to move on.
maybe just a pci up-grade or something.
