I posted this elsewhere, but I thought it was kind of a neat idea. I had 2 hours to myself at the house today and decided to learn a song as I recorded it. I chose the Shins' "New Slang". The vox needs some work, the bass is a little too low, the main acoustic is a little boomy, but overall, I'm pretty happy with it. I've decided not to re-record anything because of the nature of the project, but I think the most of the problems can be fixed in the mix. The intro and outro guitars are their own tracks, the middle has the similar EQ, but I'm going to bring the frequency of the high-pass up a little to decrease the boominess. Anyone else want to give a 2 hour project a shot? :D

Well, I already posted my opinion elsewhere, so that's all you get from me tonight! :p :D

I already posted my opinion elsewhere too, but unlike madaudio I will make the effort to copy and paste it over here for no apparent reason :p:D
This is good tuning man, I enjoyed listening. I know a bit of The Shins, but honesty I haven't heard this particular tune. The vox blend nice (like The Shins style) everything flows nice (especially like the guitar solo tones) if anything (on my system) there seems to be some low end creeping up on your mix distracted just a bit. Otherwise, sounds great man. I will see you again in fantasy baseball

Cool tune Rory...maybe I'll mix one that Snake and I did together...2 songs in 4 hours. Drunk. :D

I thought I'd get some additional comments here. I guess I thought wrong!

I think the song sounds pretty good regardless of how much time you spent on it.

Briefly

Wrote and recorded this song in about 2 hours maybe a little more. Spur of the moment thing. My timing makes me mad in this song, otherwise it would of been okay. Limited lyrics. Crappy mixing. LISTEN ANYWAY!:)

You nailed the lead guitar tone. The "oohs" are way too low. The vocals were pitchy, but the tone was good. There's no bass until the transition into the first verse (my band plays this song too, I've listened to the recording countless times :p) but it sounds fine with it in. Nice, you played the tambourine accel. at the end (the original pitch and time shifts it, but who said you were going for accuracy?).

That's about all I can pick apart from this excellent performance of a great song. And all in under 2 hours, I'm mighty impressed. The bass hides/complements the boominess of the guitars, I think it sounds fine together. When I get a couple hours free, I think I'll record my own performance of this song. But it's not going to compare to this. Bitchin' playing!
