What are 808 and 909 drums? My guess is that they are sub bass kicks but I could be dead wrong. I understand that they are mostly used on Hip hop tracks, hence why I am posting this here.

808 and 909 was, as far as I know, some of the first drumsequencers, I don't like the sound of 'em, but I'm not listening to much hip hop anyway. Propellerhead's good ol' Rebirth features a softwareversion of 'em. Further more you can download soundfonts which claim to sound that way too, haven't tried them, so I'm not the one to tell if it's right

909 - the essential house and trance drum template.. the bassdrum can do all types of shit (incl. subbass and hard house stomper) as it is modular..

808 - also a nice little template, extemely much used in hip hop and retro electronic breaks...
